Bush's 5-pound weight gain 'is all muscle,' White House says
Mon Aug 4, 6:26 AM ET Add Top Stories - USA TODAY to My Yahoo!

By Laurence McQuillan, USA TODAY

Like many Americans, President Bush (news - web sites) put on a few pounds over the past year. And like most of us, of course, it is all muscle.

Bush's three-hour annual physical Saturday found that the 57-year-old patient stands "71 3/4 inches without shoes," and weighs in 5 pounds heavier than last year at 194 pounds, but has kept the same body fat percentage of 14.5%.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan says the athletic president's weight gain "is all muscle. It really is. Muscle weighs more." (snip)

(snip) Bush has the resting heart rate of an athlete, 45 beats per minute. The typical adult has a resting heart rate of about 72 bpm, according to the American Heart Association (news - web sites). Bush's blood pressure is a healthy 110 over 62. His total cholesterol is 167, with levels of "good" HDL cholesterol at 45 and "bad" LDL at 112 both within desirable limits. He "uses reading glasses as needed" and takes vitamins but no prescription drugs on a regular basis, his doctors say. (snip)

THIS is the part of this pathetic information I simply can't accept. It's TOO damned obnoxious!

>>> (snip) The president has no history of hypertension or diabetes. He also has no history of sexually transmitted disease a category of presidential reporting that was added by Bush. When Bill Clinton (news - web sites) was president, Republicans insisted that part of the presidential medical history be disclosed, but the White House refused. (snip) <<<

3. Another Lie
If you add 5 pounds to your body weight, and your body fat percentage remains the same, then some of that added weight is also fat. Anything else is mathematically impossible.

Assuming the body fat percentage is by weight, last year's Bush fat: 27.405 pounds. This year's Bush fat: 28.130. Addtional fat: 0.725 pounds.

Of course, our press corps is too stupid to figure this one out. Guess there's no one in Washington who can multiply percentages and subtract.

Beyond that, can anyone imagine a stupider PR spin? The correct press answer is, "President Bush continues to be in excellent health." Period, full stop.

4. It's Amazing!
It's amazing just how healthy one can be after spending a solid 4 hour a day, 3 or 4 day a week working schedeule in the Oval Office. My guess from the beginning was that his primary activity in an oval office would be to find the corners.

The extra 5 pounds is probably muscle built up in his arms. One arm lifting the beer mug:beer: , the other arm exercising his favorite little partx( .

Any D over any r in '04!:kick:

11. Please correct me it I'm wrong, but
I always thought it would be pretty much imposible for a man in his mid- to declining years (that is, my age) to put on five pounds of muscle in a year while still maintaining a relatively normal sedentary work schedule without chemical help. Is our pResident on steroids?

15. aha -- so he isn't 6' after all
I suspected this ... Bush gave his height as 5'11" while his campaign claimed he was taller!

Re: "muscle". Yes -- a while ago someone on DU posted pics of his "muscle" flopping over his belt.

16. More Categories to Add to the Physical...
OK, we can play this game, too. How about adding these important categories relevant to presidential health:

1. History of alcoholism (or "heavy drinking").
2. Past drug use or abuse.
3. Estimated neurological impairment from #1 and #2.
4. Blood donation eligibility.
5. Marital intimacy status.

17. Hmmm
Bush has gain 5 lbs but his body fat percentage remains the same. For the percentage to remain the same there had to be a gain in body fat as well. But why do we assume the rest of the weight gain was muscle.

I don't mean to be disgusting but based on health adds I've heard on the radio I feel the weight gain may be due to something else. Like impacted feces. We all konow G DUHbya's full of shit.

19. oh god
First they said he cut out sweets so he could improve his running time. (WP)

Then they said he gained weight because he kept snacking on cookies during the war (cookies made by his French pastry chef. (NYT)

Now they say the weight from snacking on cookies is all muscle.
