That's true, BUT the majority of the population in this Country live in a handfull of large cities and are mostly liberal. You're forgetting about all those States that may have lower population, but are mostly conservative. There are enough Reps & Sens from THOSE States that single payer never stood a chance! The PO had a shot, but again, enough conservative Sens. said NO! The Seniors are scared, foolishlly IMO, that the bill would screw up their Medicare! I hate the idea that the Ben Nelson's, Mary Landreau's, the Blanch Lincoln's etc. don't feel they can vote for PO because THEIR constituents don't want it...they're afraid of it! The single Senator I fault the most is Leiberman! I honestly don't think HE was taking positions in support of his constituents at all! He gets a LOT of his $$ from Hartford & Aetna, and those co's employ a lot of people in his State. I think his problem was EGO, POWER, & MONEY!
I don't fault Obama. Remember Clinton tried to write the bill and tell Congress what he wanted. It never got out of committee! Obama was playing to the ego's & power concious Congress so they would create a bill THEY designed. Watching the process has been painfull to say the least, but it has gotten farther than any other HC bills ever did.
I still want a bill to pass. Improve it later, improve it at the individual State level, but it's important to pass a bill!
