Kennedy regrets not running for Senate seat
Joseph P. Kennedy II said today he regrets not seeking the U.S. Senate seat vacated by his uncle, but the former congressman has no plans to run against U.S. Sen.-elect Scott Brown in 2012.

Kennedy, who was in Brighton today delivering heating oil for his nonprofit Citizens Energy, was asked whether Brown’s victory made him regret his decision not to run to succeed his uncle, the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

“The thought has crossed my mind,” Kennedy said with a chuckle yesterday. “Maybe that wasn’t the greatest decision I ever made.”

Philip Johnston, former head of the Democratic Party, said if Kennedy had run, he would have trounced Brown.

“Joe would have won easily because he would have tapped into the populist anger that’s out there among voters,” Johnston said. “Joe is very much like his Dad, former Senator Robert F. Kennedy. They are fearless in taking on the establishment and that’s why he would have done so well.” . . .

A little late now, Joe. We need more progressives with fire in the belly. Apparently you didn't have it. Coakley - a decent person - sure didn't.

10. Disappointing to progressives. Yes..
But, to have to worry about constant fund raising, in the public light taking crap from tea baggers and having to rub shoulders with the scum in the Senate, such a Jim DeMint and act gentlemanly.. IS it worth it to loose one's privacy for what.? Just to have to cope with the senate's antiquated rules and hear idiot's pontificate their right wing crap.. I can understand his feelings about why me.

11. He was asked a question
He gave an honest answer. It seemed like what he regretted was the seat going to the Repukes, not necessarily that he didn't run. He wasn't interested and he still isn't.

9. Not really fair for us to tell others what causes they should be taking up.
Each person has to determine that on their own. And you can hardly fault a Kennedy for preferring to travel down another path than the family political track.

6. How Could He Feed
a fire in the belly, had he run and had he won he would have been as outside the sacred circle just as much as Brown. Liberals and progressives aren't listened to in Washington. They are acknowledged when their vote is needed but scorned like Palin when they try to modify any legislation.

What would have happened if he had been elected and then like Dennis Kucinich said, "That this bill is just wrong and I won't vote for it even with changes."

7. i think Coakley should have stayed out of the Primary
the others who ran would probably have won. she might have won also if she just campaigned . yeah, voters were angry but it made it worse for them to see her expect them to give her their vote without her listening to them or asking them for it.

8. even with him, Dems wouldn't have a supermajority of progressives.
the Baucuses, Nelsons, Liebermans, and other DLCers would have still jammed up any real change--and apparently that's the way Obama wants it.

Read up on the Amiraults. I hope she rots in hell. Not that I wanted her to lose though.
