Milbank nails Armey for claiming that the Jamestown Colony was "socialist."

Also, relates how a questioner debunks the Armey/teabagger version of history regarding Hamilton and the Federalist Papers. Apparently teabagger hero Hamilton (by virtue of having written the Federalist Papers) would not have made a very good teabagger, given that Hamilton advocated a strong central government, a national bank, presidents and senators who served for life and state governors appointed by the president. Dang, those funny facts keep getting in the way of teabagger "history"!

4. Don't know about the gold but it was a private company, the London Company, which later

became the Virginia Company. Basically it was a bunch of colonists backed by venture capitalists.

Meant to add a link:

2. "Tea baggers" are anti-federalists
Truth is most right leaning folks, including a fair amount of libertarians are basically frustrated anti-federalists. I find much of Ron Paul's stuff to be basically anti-federalist in nature. They lost the argument 220 years ago, and they've been losing it ever since. But they keep arguing.

3. Yep. The Federalist Party was basically formed in support of Hamilton's positions.
Not to mention that it was Hamilton who successfully argued that the Constitution allowed the assumption of a national debt - presumably one of the main grievances of the teabagger crowd. As Milbank says, history is not a teabagger strength.
