Despicable Republicans! 38% believe Obama is "doing what Hitler did".
David Schuster just quoted a Harris Poll that shows this disgusting statistic........38% of Republicans believe Obama is doing what Hitler did!

Hitler rounded up men, women, and children in the middle of the night, herded them off in cattle cars, transported them to concentration camps where they were put to death in gas chambers, while many of their children were subjected to gruesome medical experimentation.....only then to be dumped and buried in massive heaps of skin and bones. Do these Republicans even KNOW what they are saying?

And... as a society..... are we going to STAND BY and "say nothing" about this disgusting comparison?

It's time to SPEAK UP, America.

1. How, exactly? Got a megaphone as big as Fux News? Can you force those
brainwashed people to listen to you and change their minds?

There is no turning back at this point.

There is going to be a civil war. Our only hope is if enough of the ultra-conservatives die off (which might happen soon because most of them appear to be over 70) and are replaced by more moderate or liberal people and then they realize they truly are NOT the majority.

stupid to see it!" and flounce off, convinced of their own superiority. I have TRIED it. There is no dealing with these insane people.

My husband has tried it with his fellow senior Army officers. "You have no business being in MY Army if you are a liberal" he was told. (He almost got into a fist fight at that point over it.)

26. Thank you, and thank you for your service! :) You know, I suspect
an awful lot of the younger soldiers are pro-Obama - I see bumper stickers on Army posts now! That always makes me so happy when I see that. The Air Force (that one officer was AF) on the other hand has become incredibly white, incredibly religious fundamentalist, and incredibly right-wing. The AF really scares the crap out of me, I'll tell you.

5. Godwin's law...I've noticed the sooner it's used (unless it's BLATANTLY OBVIOUS) shows desparation.
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 04:26 PM by YOY
In this case the claim is not only so far fetched and the level of desparation

Dumb fucks. This is the "conservative solution" to the problem. They should be cheering...if only being "conservative" meant something more than doing jack and shit and denying the problem.

of listening to this "he's like Hitler" bullshit!!!!!!!! I wish that just one of these fucktards could spend one hour in the skin of the old former concentration camp survivor whose eloquent statement "The Monsters Never go Away" is the subject of a beautiful post appearing right now on DU. Fuck Limbaugh, Fuck Beck, Fuck Savage, Fuck Malkin Fuck Hannity Fuck all these right-wing assholes, who have the gall to even utter words of equivalence between the absolute horror of the Holocaust and the actions of a democratically elected Congress and President. Fuck them all to hell!!!

(Later, I'll tell you how I REALLY feel about them)...

9. How can you expect them to be able to make a serious comparison to what Hitler did?
They've been reading from Texas-approved schoolbooks all their lives. There was nothing in those schoolbooks about concentration camps and gas chambers and medical experiments. There was just stuff in there about how Hitler was a National SOCIALIST. And SOCIALISM is what you have whenever the government takes responsibility in caring for citizens in ANY way. Hence, if Obama signs a bill enabling the government to take responsibility for its citizens, that makes him a SOCIALIST, and because it was the federal government that makes him a NATIONAL SOCIALIST, and a NATIONAL SOCIALIST is a NAZI. And Hitler was a Nazi. Ergo, Obama = Hitler.

It all makes perfectly logical sense to those with the pathetic education many Americans get in public schools. Or with what they manage to remember from what their teachers tried to pound into their head in private schools.

Don't forget, many of them are also the products of "back to basics" education. You know, the movement that said that all kids really need to learn is readin', writin' and 'rithmetic. Not history, not thinkin' not reasonin'.

11. Unfortunately (for the country), you're all too right
Not only are these people the products of a dumbed-down conservative-slanted evangelical education model which teaches them nothing of history or geography, but they are also proud of it. My favorite: describing a person with a college education as "an educated fool".

14. The responses here are not the right approach
They aren't saying Obama is like Hitler in that he is going to have another holocaust and human experimentation. Well a small minority are but they have been claiming that about every president since the 1970s. They are NWO conspiracy types that are on Coast to Coast AM (not trying to malign this highly entertaining show) or talking to Alex Jones.

These people are like those on our side that said Bush was Hitler essentially because of the policies and actions of and surrounding the "GWoT" but from a different angle. Before war and the holocaust, the Nazis actually enacted things that are progressive like universal health care, they took over some businesses as well. These people see Obama's actions and policies that expand the government and intervene into private business as being steps that the wrong leaders can use to manipulate and control the people and businesses for their own benefit under the guise of "for the country or people".

If these actions were as these think they are there would be more appropriate analogies than Hitler but Hitler is the most well known totalitarian so he always gets the mention. But I digress.

What they are saying, without the smarts to be able to better explain other than "Obama is Hitler", is they think this is an increase in centrally planned statism and fear that if we continue down that path we could end up at totalitarianism because each time you increase/expand the government you give it more power and control. Even if so, that's ok in the right hands. Even if it got into the wrong hands our system makes it more difficult to exploit due to the separation of powers. Hopefully we'd be able to counter things at the ballot box in 2-4 years.

What we have are people that are fearful of what could happen by giving the government more power and control. Instead of just bashing them back we need to be the intelligent ones here. We need to rationally explain the limits, how Obama's actions are different, how it's really not government control, and that it's benevolent and won't snowball into something that we don't want into the wrong hands.

16. I'm afraid you're overly optimistic
I don't think 1 out of 1000 teabaggers could even use the words "an increase in centrally planned statism", much less explain at a 4th Grade level what they mean. And, aside from the Neo-Nazis, I doubt few of them know of (or care about) Hitler's so-called 'progressive moves' early in his career as German leader. I also sincerely doubt the wisdom of trying to 'rationally explaining the limits, or how Obama's actions are different' to a group that hates because it loves to hate and because hate is the one thing that lets them feel better about their own shitty existence.

They've been getting fed that stuff from people like Glenn Beck who did entire shows on it trying to tie both communism and fascism to progressivism. Media Matters covered it recently.

29. irrational people won't listen to rational explanations
I'm afraid. such has been my experience trying to talk to any of these people.

they are utterly convinced that the lies they have been fed, the distortions and exaggerations, are the complete and honest truth and anything anyone else tries to tell them, no matter how rooted in facts and real evidence, will not make any dent whatsoever, but only result in further digging in of heels.

sad times for our country, sunday night but a brief moment of euphoria, in the midst of near utter chaos.

and the saddest truth of all is that it is those who are feeding them their delusional "truths" who are doing what Hitler did, what Goebbels and the rest of his gang did. triggering and manipulating primal fears and anxieties on one hand and fueling their righteousness on the other.

and so it goes.

Germans would have told you that The Liberals and Jews were trying to do exactly what Hitler did himself wound up doing.

There can be no question that, psychologically, the modern RW is channelling Nazi/KKK mentality, though "kinder and gentler" and Americanized. (for now)

For now, though I have noticed the RW is giving us a little taste of the future with their mini-Kristallnacht.

22. Dripping with irony
Because it's many of the reactionaries who cheer when their neigbors are led away by INS - Who advocate "sharia"-like, draconian laws, torture, mob rule, and lynching - Who beleive people of different color or culture are "sub-human" , "monkeys", "mud people".
They advocate a theocracy, where a holy book (none of them agree on which edition) overrules rational, democratic law, where the superannuated leading class continues from generation to generation.
