GOP denies jobless benefits to thousands
For OpEdNews: Teresa Albano - Writer

When Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma left for his "Spring Break" on March 29, he also left some 200,000 jobless Americans without badly needed money to provide for their families.

That's the consequences of the GOP senator's actions. Like a thief, who sneaked into your home catching your family off guard, Coburn slipped into the Senate chamber while Democratic lawmakers celebrated the passage of health care. He then moved a sham bill, which effectively blocked a new round of extending unemployment insurance.

The federal unemployment subsidy is set to expire on April 5. Congress doesn't return from its recess until April 12. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said lawmakers will approve the extension then, and apply it retroactively.

Under the fig leaf of trimming deficit spending, Coburn demanded the benefits be paid for out of already committed stimulus monies. Kentucky GOP Sen. Jim Bunning pulled a similar trick in February when he blocked extending jobless benefits. The move, and his language, set off a firestorm of opposition, hurting the carefully crafted "Joe-six-pack" image of the GOP.

This time, the Republicans conspired to try to blame the Democrats for the extension expiration. But most news reports saw right through the scam. Oklahoma City's KFOR-TV ran a news story blaming Coburn for leaving thousands of unemployed Oklahomans high and dry.

1. Have to keep the people down and subservient
It's the GOP way. That way the rich can enjoy their loot better. Have to have someone to kick down, but they will all kiss up.

3. Must be why many of the teabaggers love 'em. Must have lifetime guaranteed
jobs/benefits, perpetual health benefits, lots of power and influence... Oops, that's the congressmen we employee...

Some of the teabaggers I've seen look two meals short of a stroke and/or too illiterate to come in out of the rain. No wonder they vote republican, (1) it brings their rapture more quickly with destruction, and (2) nothing really matters to them anyway because they are so ignorant they won't know the difference.

Coburn is a real work of art...

4. Yeah and I'm one of those people
There are no jobs to be had in our area. I cannot think of anything that would be legal to say about Coburn and his ilk. Bush and the GOP gutted the economy and the job market and now they have the nerve to give the public the finger. Typical!

8. Feeling your pain and good luck!
One word of advice...if you have any stocks, retirement funds etc. Don't dig into them to try to stay afloat.

If God forbid you end up having to file bankruptcy, they can't touch your retirement funds.

I think these SOBs will be shamed into another extension, but they are certainly causing yet more pain and financial burden for the unemployed (and the general economy)

I guess the GOP won't be happy until we have tent cities and Hoovervilles in every city and town.

9. Thanks
I already took my 401k when I lost my job. If I didn't, I'd definitely be homeless by now. It sucked having to pay the penalty & tax, but I didn't have a choice. Bankruptcy? Did that about 16 years ago after I got divorced and my ex-husband got away with paying $130/month towards an $865/month day care bill!! The day care was more than my rent, but the judge didn't care. I took all the child support, his whopping $130, and still had to kick in a few hundred each month to cover it. I'm glad those days are over!!

As for retirement, it doesn't exist for me. I'll be working til I'm dead, that is, IF I COULD FIND A JOB!!!

5. Since Congress is on Spring Break
Maybe since they are the "hired help", we can put them on unemployment until the actually figure out how to help fix the mess they put us in in the past 9 years. No checks until they get us up to 2 Million Jobs a week, then a bonus for extra work? Wait, they don't care about their pay checks, Duh, They spent MILLIONS to get jobs that pay THOUSANDS. It's about how they can help the corporations that got them there!!

Oh yea, I forgot!

7. Remember these things come election time
We must keep these things in mind whenever we hit the election booth.

Remember the pain that their actions have caused.

Remember the deep scars that have been inflicted upon us.

Remember the breed of people responsible.

Remember.

Get out the vote.

Tell your neighbors. Tell your friends. Tell your family.

SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!!

REMEMBER!

10. I've been telling everyone I know
to vote out the incumbents. If there's a democratic challenger in the primary, then that's who's getting my vote. I'm just so sick and tired of the bullshit. I hope they're enjoying their vacation, while the rest of us are trying to figure out how to survive. How the hell do they sleep at night?
