Joe Sestak, the 60th Democrat

One of the best things Sestak has going for him is the bad thing that happened to him in the spring — being dissed by just about every prominent Democrat in the land, from President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on down. (Even Magic Johnson, for whatever reason, felt compelled to stand up for Arlen Specter.) The high-level opposition has allowed Sestak to cast himself as something other than his party’s man, which may prove to be particularly useful this year. Democratic elders did not mean to strengthen Sestak — they wanted to defeat him — but their opposition earlier could end up preserving a Senate seat for the party.

I really fear a Toomey win. When he ran against Specter for the 2006 Primary, his righty-toon views were on full display. I always liked Joe Sestak, he's in my neighboring district.

2. I believe Sestak will make a good Senator.

But I would advise him to stick with the car travel, even if it's more tiring than flying around the state in a plane.

3. I am going to vote for him only because he is the Dem, but he is not one of my favorite people

and I don't need reminders of the primaries or his remarks concerning "a job offer". I still feel that entire episode was a blunder committed by a candidate who 1. either didn't mind throwing his party under the bus for his own gain by exaggerating the situation, or 2. he is a real political novice-which worries me-and he should have waited until he was ready for "prime time".
But, as I said, I am voting for him if only because I know how bad Toomey will be for the state.
