Western culture is simply not compatible religious doctrine.

So, who are all of these Christians identifying themselves as such but they really aren’t? They’re part of a growing group of society; the Egonovists.

The concept of fairness in America has been a moral driving force at every major point in history, from the Revolution, to the Civil War, both World Wars, the civil rights movement, and even in Iraq, and everything in between. Unfair punishments and nonsensical crimes don’t make sense in the mind of the average westerner, so they ignore them, and in the process, they become an Egonovist.

Egonovism is the belief in a god and/or a religious structure that is not determined by holy text, organized religion, or religious leaders. It is the Egonovists themselves who determine the religious doctrine. Essentially, they make up the rules, and they decide how to follow them. It is likely that a statistically large number of self-identified Christians fall into the Egonovism category.

They may not even be aware of it, but they’ve reconstructed Christian doctrine in a way that makes sense to them. Ignoring some parts deemed bad or irrelevant, embracing other areas containing relevant wisdom, and then filling in the blanks with their own ideas. It’s not just Christians who do this; people from every major religion living in Western society do the same thing.

What is Egonovism?

The term “Egonovism” comes from the latin “ego,” meaning self, and “novo” to make new, rewrite, or invent. And it fits perfectly. The individual develops their own personal religions system and borrows ideas from established religions that they’re familiar with. Many Egonovists include the Christ figure in their religion, and hence they self-identify as Christians.

Most if not all have no chance in hell of ever being "rich"...My guess is most of them are on some for of Government help and have no clue they are!

I would be very interested to find out what major religion has the highest percentage of actual followers who adhere truly to its rules. I would guess Islam does.

That may be at the root of some of the Islamophobia we're seeing. Cafeteria/egonovist Christians feeling threatened because people are actually following this other religion properly, making egonovist/cafe christians feel jealous and/or inferior either consciously or otherwise.

Teabagger types love to consider devoted Muslims as "nut jobs." If teabagger/cafeteria Christian types were to admire the strict devotion and adherence many Muslims have to their religion, they would simultaneously be forced to acknowledge THEIR OWN LACK OF DEVOTION TO THEIR OWN RELIGION.

It's much easier, less threatening and far less demanding to call people of another faith "nuts" than it is to fully and honestly appraise the disparity between one's own lifestyle and one's stated religious belief system. The religious adherent who accomplishes this honestly must then make the radical changes to bring an entire life and a comprehensive set of religious beliefs into perfect alignment. This is a monstrous undertaking and requires deep soul searching and radical, permanent lifestyle changes.

In our society, deep honesty is admitting that NASCAR is really only interesting for the crashes or that less attractive sex partners can be fun if nobody finds out.

Most Americans, given the choice between brutally honest introspection and requisite massive lifestyle changes or calling Muslims "nuts" won't even consider the first option.

not one of the half dozen of them follows any of the rules and regs that are meant for them. They reject the teachings of Paul in regard to women, slavery, clothing styles, marital roles and hundreds of other areas, yet they stand up on a heap of this discarded dogma and pick up one or two rumpled verses that apply-surprise!- to others, and they claim that they adhere to this teaching because it is the word of God. The words next to it, about them, apparently not the word of God. But that one about Maddow, God Himself demands it be followed.
In short, all of them make it up as they go along, and do in fact worship their own egos, under the name of God. There is no faith, there is no practice. They are trees which bear a self serving fruit.
