I'm getting tired of the president's apologists... and of the hard core left
Has he fucked up?
OH HELL YES!

Is he treating us on the (reasonable) left like shit, ignoring us as bad as *II did?
OH HELL YES!

Has he accomplished something?
yes, quite a bit actually.

Is it what the country actually NEEDS?!
Mwah... in some cases it's acceptable, but overall it's way too weak.

What im sick of hearing/reading.
"Obama's had a hard time!".... WAH! mother-fucking-WAH!
look his party came in with a SUPER FUCKING MAJORITY!
he let it atrophy - ad there is NO WAY you can spin that to convince me otherwise.

"He hasn't done enough!!! Lets vote dems OUT!!!"
You're a fucking idiot!
I'm sorry, but it's true.
YES what he's passed is fucking weak, but all of it has loop holes we can use to create better laws.
YES it's mostly shit, but are you serious!? Seriously>?! do you want ANOTHER 2-12 years of thug control?

The laws we have coming out of DC now are pretty sad, but they ARE useful laws. What idiot thinks that NOT voting , or voting AGAINST a dem in the GENERAL election is a good thing?

If you want a more progressive dem in office, then work to primary him!

I'm always amazed how little that is every said.
ALL OR NOTHING is a great way to loose!

"Surely we must hang together, or surely, we shall hang separately" - Ben Franklin inverter of everything! (little joke, but his list of patents is amazing)

Keep that in mind.

PLEASE PRIMARY the DINOs out of office, I beg you!

but remember to vote D on the 4th. it's the best way to make sure that we at least don't slide backwards...

And please, CONTINUE to criticize the president!
He's OUR'S, and he needs to be reminded of that!
We hold the fucking leash, not the other way around!
WE put him into office, WE put the dem's into office, WE are the ones who will keep the dems in office, NOT the multi-corporations!
REMIND him every fucking day that he's the one who owes US, not US owing him!

1. Does your boss "hold the fucking leash" and you are what's at the end of it?
Voting for a President doesn't make him your fucking pet.

2. If it wasn't for US LIBERALS, he would not be in office!
My views on what he should do, vs what is reasonable are rather different. I don't consider myself as those who should be heeded.

but yes, any politician we go well out of our way, spending hundreds of thousands of person hours working like dogs to get him and his ilk in office... then YES I do expect them to at least acknowledge our existence as opposed to assaulting, insulting, degrading us every fucking chance they get!

And im sick of people who say he craps gold bricks and piss perfume!

I'm not saying he's useless, and im not going to hold him up as a bastion of liberalism, but I'm also going to hold him to the fire along with everyone else, for ACTIVELY pissing on us every chance he gets!

You have not the first clue what it's like out here, outside the US... the things they do here, that are simply common sense, the feeling of being from a 3rd world country (mind you euro's are more than a little superioristic themselves)!

It doesn't help when out own god damned president kicks us as well!

3. Well I'm also a liberal and I helped get him elected as well,
although I don't attempt to take all of the credit,
as according to most, there were many constituencies
that got him elected......minorities and the youth being
the biggest, especially those who had never voted.

6. And in many cases those first time voters were literally driven to the polls by US liberals
Look this is silly we're on the same side.

Why are you attacking your own?

In the end... that's what im most upset about.

5. Well, if you look at this 2008 exit poll
http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/national-exit-polls.html

19% of all voters were liberals voting for Obama
6% of all voters were conservatives voting for Obama
26% of all voters were moderates voting for Obama

Which group do you think is going to get courted?

Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 01:49 PM by comtec
seriously? what do we do? accept that insults?

WHO is it that works for a candidate?

it's not the moderates.

edited to add:

I accept we aren't the one's who will ever be courted... but is it necessary to insult us at every fucker turn?

13. Insults and disrespect have been flying everywhere.......for a long time now.....
so I don't believe that anyone is immune,
nor has anyone been so perfect that they can't be criticized,
and that doesn't include only the administration....

11. Have you ever heard the term "Public Servant"?
There's some tiresome and bizarre belief that we owe this man everything. We shouldn't question him. Nobody's ever suffered like he has, nobody's ever stood up to power like he has, all of his awards and achievements are fully deserved and above reproach. We should heap nothing but praise upon him and understand it when he bends over backward for the reactionaries who are no more bipartisan than they were to Bill Clinton.

This is crap.

Upon election, the executive is not given carte blanche for his/her actions and letters of marque to do as he/she pleases; expecting that is a serf's or religious acolyte's mentality. Amid the dizzying blizzard of shilly-shallying semi-promises made, the implication was widely trumpeted that this was a "new" kind of politics, instead of what is a cruel and pathetic joke of the same kind of standard appeasement, grandstanding and misguided accommodation.

This particular thread is one of very few that has the perspicacity to stand up for some decency and still concede the complexity of the situation. Instead of DEMANDING the world be accepted as the black-and-white that it isn't, this thread-starter voiced what many of the disappointed but still loyal left feels right now. Daring to express some nuance deserves praise.

We don't owe him fealty like some king. I have seen to much of that in the right wing. Liberals should be better; we should hold their feet to the fire.

22. and a president who doesnt represent the people who elected him
doesnt get re-elected.

He's not our pet, but he's not representing us enough either. If you're a centrist right leaning douchebag, then Obama definently is keyed in to your views, and you're happy right now. If you're a leftie, youve been ignored underrepresented, and sold down the river on many issues, so you're not happy.

I see you are happy...

14. thank you
you'd be amazed how much trouble that gets me in.
i've never been good at black n white thinking, even though i admit my rants can come across that way.

and this is certainly not a black n white issue.

I like Obama, or rather I want to, but it's exhausting being the chew toy of the right and the middle =<[br />
anyway, thank you, it's a rare compliment I get, and it's appreciated.

20. If you don't like the reasonable left, then you're part of the problem
thinking that the left can't be reasonable, or capable of laying out their ideas in a way that shows benefit to everyone.

that's the problem, and the point of my OP.

if you want to attack me and say im crazy, then obviously my point was lost, and i apologize for wasting your time.

have a great life ^_^

24. " shows benefit to everyone." everyone being who?
Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 05:21 PM by bkozumplik
Thats part of the problem. You dont need to bring EVERYONE to the table, including the nuts and fascists, when making policy. You need to bring the best ideas, and jettison the rest. Thats why you get elected, to push a clearly defined agenda. If we just wanted to take the average of every debate and do that, we will never get anywhere, ever.

Obama shouldnt invite the republicans to govern with him. But he does, doesnt he.

That IS a weakness.
