2. We've got a standing joke these days, my missus and me. She wanted me to

help her with something or other quite trivial. I said, "Hang on a minute, Let me get my breath back, will you." And we both collapsed with laughter, as my over-exertion had been caused by scratching a scratch-card. But, as I told her, the biro top I was using was too blunt... or too sharp. Not sure which.

Ah, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!* Or, as Polonius might have said, "Old-age never comes on its own...".

*Apparently, it was what I mumbled after a heart op. A nurse had not long before asked me if I wanted anything to eat. Thinking she was "winding me up", I replied, "I don't think I'm supposed to eat anything before the operation." But apparently, I'd already had it." So, I was relieved. I was my old, normal, functioning self.

I'd settle for not being "rolled" by their election machines. Mugged!

4. This sort of non wasted energy thread looks like a good place to wonder
The other day I watched a Russian newscast and they were discussing how Americans were overweight and that the excess weight is caused by GM food. The whole segment was about how GM food has taken over the grocery stores in the states where it is almost impossible to not eat GM food. The broadcast freely discussed weight gain, diabetes and other health issues caused by GM foods.

In the US, GM food is barely even whispered much less discussed. In America this excess weight gain is always attributed to fast food and soda pop and inactivity.

It got me to wondering if the whole world is so aware of how nasty this stuff is that the subject can be so casually discussed on a Russian newscast.

So I wonder, does everyone else in the world know and freely talk about GM food.

5. Yes. I think so. Even the Daily Mail, a right-wing, tea-bagger-type paper
has often contained articles criticising GM.

They know they have to run with the hare as well, as hunting with the hounds, but sometimes they do take principled positions, and this seems to have been one of them.

However, you will not see articles that would be taken amiss by the US oligarchy in their Online paper, presumably, for international consumption, i.e. including the US. It's seems to be only for domestic consumption.

But, no, it's not a big no-no here at all, and we're by far the closest to the US in our degenerate neoliberal culture, so I can't imagine it would be an unmentionable topic in continental Europe or elsewhere. In fact, in Italy, recently I believe, protestors recently set fire to a field of GM produce of some kind or other. And similar actions have been taken here in the UK. In fact, it is the GM people who have be secretive and furtive. What goes on in the US beggars belief.
