I received an interesting response to my article on DU today, via e-mail. The author of the letter graciously allowed me to share it with you. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

Here's the letter:

Gee, as a newcomer to the DU site, I've never seen a site so hate filled in all my political surfing. Where do you find this among conservative main-line sites? Where is the hatred for Ted Kennedy, or the hatred for Kerry??

Look at the verbage, the violence, the vermin.

Logic, as you say, my friend, but evidence in its application.

You've taken profiling to an artform.

The letter is real. The reason I shared it with you is to show you the indignities that I have to put up with on your behalf.

10. For some years, the conservatives have been crying for blood:

Limbaugh says "Don't kill all the liberals. Leave a few."
Coulter laughs at the idea of blowing up the NYT building.
Parker suggests shooting the Democratic candidates.

This is now mainstream conservative rhetoric.

Then when somebody at DU says something like "You know, this President really is a poopie head," the conservatives wail and moan about how hateful we are! This is deliberate dehumanizing rhetoric, intended to justify violence.

Don't react to it but do pay attention to it. These extremists are well-funded, and some would really like to start shooting us down in the streets.
