Arms deal: Saudi Arabia and US put 9/11 behind them
Source: The Guardian UK

In public the Saudis and their partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council support using diplomatic means to tackle Iran's alleged nuclear ambitions, but express greater concern behind closed doors, diplomats say. Iran insists it seeks only civilian nuclear power, not weapons.

Relations between Washington and Riyadh were badly damaged by the 9/11 attacks and the identification of the Saudi origins of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida. But common strategic interests and pressures generated by the arms industry and the recession helped smooth differences. US defence sales to the Gulf doubled from $19bn in 2001-2004 to $40bn in 2005-2008.

More of the same as the U.S. continues to work on the expansion of the American empire.

1. "...and the identification of the Saudi origins of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida."
I guess 15 of 19 hijackers had unknown origins. Oh well, they were probably Iraqi Iranian.

And I can not understand why US would sel all that weapon to a country, who is far more despotic than current Iran, and who also have their own nuclear program, who withouth doubt also can/wil be used to made Saudi-Arabia a nuclear nation... And I am not to sure about Saudi-Arabia's intentions to have a nuclear weapon... They have been building a rather big nuclear reactor, on the backburner for many year in a remote part of Saudi-Arabia, and why hiding a nuclear facility, when they can build it in the open, far more accesible to IAEA, and other international body's who is working to stop produsing of nuclear weapon..

All this conventional weapons they are bying from US, becouse they are scared about the ambitions in Iran is just stupid, and if you look historic about it, Saudi-Arabia is the violent one in this area of the world.. The Islamic Republic of Iran have for the last 200-300 year not been a danger to anyone outside its own border.. But Saudi-Arabia was born with violence, alleready by late 1700s, they was using horrible metodes to kill opponents and to make into survitute everyone else, who was not following their brand of Islam...

Saudi-Arabia is a dangrous country, and wil, in the future either act out in a horrible way, or be destabilized, and with all the weapons they have, be a ground for a lot of wars when the oil is no longer a viable option for the kindom... And we do not know, what else Saudi-Arabia have under the rug, in un-conventional weapons too...

That's the culture in the U.S. Never mind the vast majority of the 9-11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. We have corporations that want to make beaucoup bucks and if it means selling weapons to the Saudis, so be it. And our government is too happy to accommodate their pursuit of profits at any cost. Never mind the Saudi government's record on human and civil rights.

When 9-11 victims filed suit against the Saudi royal family, whose law firm has been representing the Saudis? Jim Baker's.

You are posible right, and it is sad becouse the weapon you are selling Saudi-Arabia can more than posible end up in the hand, where it should not be... Like in terrorist hands... Or in a new regime, who are less friendly to US than the current are - and they are plying with two hands. One to US, one to the islamic world, where they are playing to the extremes... After all, Saudi-Arabia, where the place where most of the terroist was from, and was educated in the ways of the Whanabit sect.. And I have also the feeling, if anyone was to say _nay_ to the sell of the arms to Saduies, they would end up been killed by unknown attackers... It would not be the first time that have happend over the years

What the victims of 9/11 have to feel, when they sued the saudi arabian familiy, and the law firm who represented the saudis - was the same firm as mr Jim Bakers... I do not know but I would have feeled horrible if I had been a victims of that atrossity... Who by the way, are not closed, as long as so many forms of "secrets" is in place. The truth about what happend that day are not near known to mankind.. And I am afraid we posible wil not know it, for a long time.. Maybe our children when that time comes, can get to the botton of it all. As we are discovering facts from the world war two, who was secret for more than 50 year or so..
