"We lost the house." A fitting motto to the result of the legacy of Bush economics.

I can't tell you how many times over the last 5 years I have had a friend come up to me and say, "We lost the house".
Referring to their own private residence.
Sometimes it was someone I knew from work, who used to work with me.
Or an acquaintence who recognized me at the store, someone I didn't know real well.

Over the last few years I have had several relatives call me on the phone and say, "We lost the house".
Some of them didn't live in my state, so I didn't know what the economic situation was in their state. I didn't know what to say. Except to tell them that I was so sorry to hear that they lost their home.

Several neighbors from my own block, right here in my subdivision, have come by my house over the last few years to say good-bye to me and tell me, "We lost the house".
Some were moving out of state, but they didn't say why. Some of them had lost their spouse and didn't want to live with all of the memories in their home. And in the process I lost some very good neighbors, who were quite friendly and willing to lend a hand anytime someone needed help in the neighborhood.

I was always told to be kind to your neighbors because you may never know if someday you will find out you have a lot more in common with them than you first thought when you met them.

I have wondered how many times I have read someone here at DU, or someone writing on their own blog or journal say "We lost the house".
It has to be in the hundreds by now. I seem to read that story almost every day.
It is so depressing to read someone talking about them losing their own home.
Their safe haven. Their own "little corner of the world".

The reasons are usually because they lost their job.
Not enough money.
A few were downsizing after the kids moved out, which I find out later, was only temporary as the kids came back within the year.
Or in a few cases, one of the spouses got sick and they couldn't work anymore. So the couple couldn't afford their home any longer.
Or every once in awhile it was because one of their own kids - their own flesh and blood - had to spend a lot of time in a hospital undergoing life or death treatment.
And the astronomical bills sent them packing.
Not knowing where they would wind up.
Not having anywhere to go.

"We lost the house" is not a new phrase to me.
I've heard it, I've seen it, I've felt it 100s of times over the last 5 or 6 years.

And you think I'm going to stop fighting for those people now?
You think that couldn't happen to me?
What fantasy are you living in?
Fox News and Karl Rove don't decide reality for me.
I live in the real world, with real people, working with people every freaking day of my life.

Yet, the mainstream media is going to try and sell us a bill of goods, that all of this now is Obama's fault?
Are you serious?
That shit isn't going to work anymore.
You can give Sarah Palin her own freaking channel on cable tv -- she's an idiot, I'm never going to vote for her!!
Not even if I wind up homeless!

They tried to sell me on the idea that Christine O'Donnell was "mainstream" and qualified to sit in the Senate!?!
What the hell was that?!?
I don't watch cartoons like the Simpsons or the Family Guy, but Christine O'Donnell belongs on the Cartoon channel. Get her a show of her own on that channel, pronto.
Let some young kids watch her and laugh at her excuses for losing 3 straight Senate races in 5 years.
I'm not interested in hearing her whine, get her the hell off of the national stage, quick!

Because she isn't funny to me.
So, no, I'm not going to watch her on Fox either.
And these other guys, Angle, Buck, Tancredo, Paul, Fiorina, is the media so sold out to the point that they can't tell the truth between a whackjob and a serious candidate?
They aren't funny to watch either.
Put them on Fox, so I can ignore them, but don't talk about them on MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, or CNN as if they were valid candidates that actually had clue numero uno about how to solve the problems that this nation still faces today!

And why do we still face a lot of those same problems?
Because of 2 years of filibustering in the Senate by the Republicans!!
Everyone knows that -- so tell the truth about it for once, mainstream media!!

I know you won't.
I have learned over the years that I can't count on you during a serious crisis like the one we are going through now in this country to act responsibly.

"We lost the house" has happened so many times to 100s, no make that 1000s, of people I have met or worked with or bumped into or knew from the grocery store or who were related to me.
And you think I am going to turn my back on those people now?
My neighbors, my friends, my relatives, my co-workers, my former co-workers?
Now?
At this critical point in our history?

You're out of your freaking minds!!!!!!
The 2012 campaign started yesterday -- and WE, the Democrats - yeah that's right, us, the ones you vilified for the last 2 years - will restore order in our damned house!!

I want to thank all of the Democrats who lost their seats in the U.S. House of Representatives for voting for what is right, for standing behind our elected President, and for doing what you were supposed to do to solve the problems we face in this country.
I thank you and wish you well, even though you lost your race.
You lost your job through no fault of your own, but still, you will lose your job in the House.
The Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court allowing unlimited, unaccounted corporate contributions to flood the voting districts had more to do with you losing your job than some "political tsunami".

Run again!

Hell, we put you guys into office once, we can do it again!
We're Democrats, that's what we do.
We bounce back, we come back with more fire in our eyes, and more passion in our hearts.
To do the right thing.
To solve the problems this country faces today in these hard economic times.

They didn't want to compromise, they didn't want to "give an inch", they didn't want to "give in".
Guess what Boehner?
That works both ways!

Because in 2 very short years, you're the one who is going to be saying "We lost the house".

To borrow a phrase from fishface, "You betcha'!!!!!"


On a personal note,
I love you Nancy Pelosi, you did the right thing!
You made history, retained your diginity in the face of incredible opposition of historic levels, and held your head high through it all.

You did us proud, Miss Speaker of the House.
I only wish I could vote for you.
