(I will be calling McConnell's office to request that he reconsider attending. I'm a firm believer in history repeating itself! If you agree, call or email McConnell and encourage him to go! - gd)
A student of history, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was quick with his answer last week when a student from Virginia's Washington & Lee University invited him to the school's mock political convention in February 2012.
“There's not a snowball's chance in hell,” he told the student who asked him during a question-and-answer session hosted by the website Politico.

If you've ever spent much time around McConnell, you know that he fashions himself as the modern-day Alben Barkley, the former Democratic Senate leader and vice president from Paducah whose bigger-than-life statue graces the Kentucky State Capitol rotunda along with Abraham Lincoln, Henry Clay, Jefferson Davis and Dr. Ephraim McDowell.

“You know, one of my predecessors did that,” McConnell told the student who invited him to the convention. “Alben Barkley. And right in the middle of his speech, at your mock convention in 1956, he had a heart attack and died. So, the answer my friend is, ‘No.' ”
