Democrats Feud as Bush Falters by Sam Parry
Another excellent article from the folks at Consortiumnews:

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2003/081303a.html

"Just as George W. Bush is starting to look vulnerable, the Democratic Party is showing signs of splintering. Oddly, the break is less about policy than about which wing of the party is most likely to doom the Democrats to defeat next year.

Progressive Democrats call their centrist rivals Bush-Lite sell-outs who would re-run the disastrous 2002 campaign. In this view, the centrists would follow the losing strategy of cowering before Bush as the strong leader in the "war on terror" while trying to pitch a few moderate domestic policies to lure away voters.

To the centrists, the progressives are juvenile purists who invite replays of the 1972 and 1984 electoral disasters by offending swing voters with unpopular policies. In recent weeks, this name-calling has picked up with the centrist Democratic Leadership Council and its presidential favorite, Sen. Joe Lieberman, lashing out at former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and other Democrats who opposed the Iraq War."

It is unwise to discard or gloss-over any cautionary tale from any Parry Brother. Dem' boys got de' Burnin' Mojo.

Must have been something Ma Parry ate during pregnancy or something.

3. well, there is a primary campaign, after all
I think the feuding is exaggerated. Yes, there is a profound debate going on about the direction to take the party in, but that's been there, and it's not going away.

The question is how nasty it's going to get, and I think things are actually getting less nasty. What Lieberman said wasn't that bad. I didn't agree with it, but it's basically just his campaign strategy.

Kerry has been declining to comment on Dean, and I think that's a good thing. Some reporters in NH were trying to stir something up, but Kerry wisely declined.

4. Lieberman should take a hike....that would give unity......
or at least a better sense of unity than we have now. He is the candidate who has been the most devisive constantly attacking the left wing of the party, constantly defending Bush.

This article points clearly to the fact that the strategies of pandering to Bush have NOT worked. And, Lieberman has been the most vocally devisive by constantly questioning the liberal left's loyalty.

This is an interesting article because it points out all the differences we here on DU have argued over time and again. Which strategy is the best to get us in the WH in 2004. One side is going to have to give in and it isn't going to be the liberal left. By now, it's obvious we are the hope of the party.
