Life-saving test for babies cut by governor
Lakeland, Florida - Heather Smith looks at photographs on a hallway wall that show her smiling son, Brandon. Until he was six months old, Brandon was a healthy baby and then he caught a cold.

"It quickly escalated into pneumonia and hospitalizations," says Smith. Brandon had Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease or SCID. SCID is also known as "The Bubble Boy Disease."

SCID prevented Brandon from developing a normal immune system and, in just three weeks, he was gone. "He would have celebrated his 18th birthday this year," says Smith. "So, of course, I do the 'what-ifs.' He would be graduating from high school. We would be looking at colleges."

2. Abortion is evil, but it's just fine to let babies die after they've been born.
Asshole.

4. No laughing matter. The US has one of the highest infant mortality rate in the developed world.
It's an embarrassment that is often overlooked along with our horrendous teen pregnancy and teen STD rate.

7. That's one of my responses when the jackasses talk about
American exceptionalism....my response is "How can we claim that when we have one of the higest infant mortality rates in an industrialized nation?"! You know what their response is? That's not true...so I send them the link to world statistics...that usually shuts them up.

5. Floridians need to do something drastic or you'll be living in Nazi Germany soon
and when I say drastic I mean really, really drastic.

9. What can they do?
With a Republican legislature they can't impeach him.

With a Republican electorate they can't recall him.

And you can't just go around putting alligators in people's bathtubs.

12. Believe it or not there are voters that once considered themselves
conservative that are increasingly upset. I have yet to meet anyone happy w/Rick Scott. He is going after jobs that employ people that identify both right and left and that has an overall effect. Many in the legislature are also unhappy w/Scott. He's been playing games w/them too.

I've lived in FL for 11 Godforsaken years now and have never seen so many upset R's/Cons.

Cheers
Sandy

14. And with only a 29% approval rating,
I'm sure there are enough voters who would recall him if given the chance.

17. Think really, really hard
When police remove someone from a public building because they "look liberal", the governor has declared martial law. it is time to think outside the box - outside of your comfort zone. The alternative is to do nothing and get used to it, because it is only going to get worse if the only pushback is indignant posts at DU

6. Among OECD nations the US ranks seventh highest in infant mortality. Quite an achievement for the
"richest country in the world." Yes indeed!

you're on your own.

But the baby can still choose to have the test!:sarcasm:

Besides, it's more profitable if people suffer.

15. The startup plan was only $2 million
and he vetoed it? But he can find the money to pay for mandatory drug testing. He doesn't even try to mask what a complete ass he is.
