http://www.citizensforethics.org/press/entry/august-scoundrel-of-the-month-governor-rick-perry#.Tlfm1OH2vPY.twitter While one leading contender was an attention starved perennial candidate, she was no match for Texas Governor Rick Perry, whose mouth ran roughshod to August’s Scoundrel of the Month title. The outspoken presidential candidate infamously accused Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke of treason (a crime punishable by death) and promised that Mr. Bernanke would be treated be treated “pretty ugly” in the Lone Star State.
“When you’re a Texas Republican, and you say something that even horrifies Karl Rove, you have really placed your boot firmly in your mouth,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “This is not to discount the boorish behavior of the other worthy nominees, but when you come within a whisker of threatening to hang a federal official, you’re in a class by yourself.”
Governor Perry joins a growing wall of shame that includes Senator David Vitter (R-LA) and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Nominations are already being accepted for September’s Scoundrel of the Month, and are not limited to people; entities and agencies are also eligible. Click here to nominate a scoundrel.
