Bush "Pioneer" Caused the Power Blackout!!!!!

Those of us left in sweltering darkness Thursday and Friday have a Bush crony to thank.

ABC News says the massive blackaout began in a power transmission line in suburban Cleveland. What should have been a local problem spread so far because the Ohio power company that owned the line failed to separate itself from the grid.

"A spokesman for the Ohio power company, FirstEnergy Corp., said it had followed all proper procedures but would not comment specifically on whether it had triggered the huge blackout by failing to separate...."(Brian Ross, "Where It All Began, ABC News, August 15, 2003)

First Energy is the nation's 10th-largest investor-owned electric utility. It owns fossil and nuclear power plants and also produces and sells oil and gas.

The President of First Energy, Tony Alexander, is a Bush "Pioneer," meaning he raised more than $100,000 in individual contributions for the 2000 Bush presidential campaign. Sorry but the link dosn't open up for me, how can they not separate from the grid during emergencies? One would think that should be as simple as flipping a switch.

Pity poor Gov. Pataki, after he demanded that there be an investigation and whatnot. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Karl calls him.

I head at one place that a British company owned the power company that started it all. I can't remember where I head that, but here's one: the government did it to stop the Saudi's from transfering money out of the country. The New York office of the IRS was told to go on standby power at noon.

7. Hopefully Kucinich will stay on top of this

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Democratic presidential candidate from Cleveland and a FirstEnergy critic, said he was closely monitoring the situation.

"If press reports are accurate, and FirstEnergy once again failed to comply by federal standards, then I believe serious questions must be asked about FirstEnergy's ability to effectively serve," he said.
