The new normal: Fighting state laws that defy common sense
Is anyone else starting to hate the phrase "the new normal" — as in, "Get used to this miserable state of affairs, because it's the new normal"?

The new normal is gas near four bucks a gallon. It's politicians pledging not to exercise the individual judgment we elected them for. It's jobs currently as uncommon as common sense.
---------
Under Gov. Rick Scott, our state has adopted a new law requiring poor people to first pass a drug test before they can get cash welfare assistance.
--------
The new normal would have you disregard this little factoid: Only 2.5 percent of applicants have failed their drug test thus far. And studies indicate 8.7 percent of the general population uses drugs.

Really great rundown of pRick Scott's idiotic policy at http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/the-new-normal-fighting-state-laws-that-defy-common-sense/1191765

2. I think every member of government should be drug tested randomly
and on going throughout their 'service'. How is it athletes, military, 7-11 workers, welfare recipients, in short, EVERYONE else in America gets drug tested but NOT the people responsible for running the country/state?

I'm willing to bet that if these clowns were required to piss in a cup on demand there would different laws about the use of drug testing in America.

Oh, and their tests would be under FULL DIRECT OBERSVATION.....none of this "honor code" bull shit. none of of them have any honor to invoke here......you KNOW they would get one of their staff to pee for them if not directly observe red.

And if that is too rough for their delicate sensibilities then do hair testing for them, but test them we should.

3. I think some of them should be forced to take drugs.
It might help. ;-)

4. re drugs - DOH. The poor can't AFFORD drugs.
If you wash your face in the wrong water, nose leeches become the new normal. So?

What a STUPID concept. But then the old normal wasn't that useful either.

I have a strong preference for "functional" over "normal".
