Will the execution of Troy Davis help to end the death penalty in the United States? - poll
POLL: Will the execution of Troy Davis help to end the death penalty in the United States?

I think that people who read about the Troy Davis story who are usually for the death penalty will begin to change their minds and oppose it. For the past decade support for the death penalty has been falling, and that's a good thing.

3. The fact is that a majority of Americans continue to support it because of
the prevalence of heinous crimes. Some fine tuning of its application is in order but it isn't going away.

10. Won't make a difference
Those who are for the DP think Davis got what was coming to him, those against the DP just had one more cause to champion for a few more weeks or days. If I recall correctly, pro-DP sentiment is about double what anti-DP sentiment is, this is not going to change anything.
