'Outsourcing by US firms will continue'
TNN Sep 26, 2011, 02.09am IST

PUNE: Business firms in the United States will continue to outsource work to Indian information technology and enabled services companies despite the present problems faced by the American economy, said Kenneth Coleman, member of a special advisory group on US-India trade policy and a key figure in US President Barrack Obama's IT think tank.

Coleman was addressing a meeting of city businessmen organised at the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture by IT company Sama Technologies.

Coleman said India has offered itself as a lower cost destination for US companies to where they can outsource. But the advantage may erode sooner than later as other countries are gearing up to offer IT services at lower costs than India.

Markets such China, the Philippines, Poland or Russia are coming ahead fast and will challenge India's cost advantage, Coleman said. In addition to competitive cost, these countries will enjoy time zone edge over India as far as business with US partners goes, he added.

7. I'm in a similar position... a Sr. Software Engineer
with 16 years experience. I've been able to pick up a few stray contracts here and there, but nothing substantial, and what I do see that looks like a potential opportunity is paying $20-$25 an hour because that's what they can outsource it for. :grr:

I'm charging less per hour in 2011 than I was charging in 2001. :argh:

8. I'm looking for non-IT jobs for now cause there are just none to be had
We need a government that PROTECTS the people from crap like outsourcing OUR jobs - instead both parties actively support GETTING RID OF OUR JOBS. it's unreal. this is the disaster of a two party system that is actually the same party - except on some social issues.

4. And Obama is pushing more free trade deals with foreign countries.
But now that we are nearing campaign season, he's sounding a little different. He always talks a good game.
