The Hillary Moment By PATRICK H. CADDELL AND DOUGLAS E. SCHOEN

President Obama can't win by running a constructive campaign, and he won't be able to govern if he does win a second term.

When Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson accepted the reality that they could not effectively govern the nation if they sought re-election to the White House, both men took the moral high ground and decided against running for a new term as president. President Obama is facing a similar reality—and he must reach the same conclusion.

He should abandon his candidacy for re-election in favor of a clear alternative, one capable not only of saving the Democratic Party, but more important, of governing effectively and in a way that preserves the most important of the president's accomplishments. He should step aside for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Caddell served as a pollster for President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Schoen, who served as a pollster for President Bill Clinton, is author of "Hopelessly Divided: The New Crisis in American Politics and What It Means for 2012 and Beyond," forthcoming from Rowman and Littlefield.

19. The first one is a Republican. The second is a Fox News "Democrat"...
And one of the named partners of Penn, Schoen, and Berland, which (besides making an absolute fortune off the 2008 Clinton campaign for their terrible advice) is regarded as generally being one of the most evil political consulting firms on the planet.

5. This has been discussed and posted already.
But since it is revived, allow me to dispel this idea.

They said:
One year ago in these pages, we warned that if President Obama continued down his overly partisan road, the nation would be "guaranteed two years of political gridlock at a time when we can ill afford it." The result has been exactly as we predicted: stalemate in Washington, fights over the debt ceiling, an inability to tackle the debt and deficit, and paralysis exacerbating market turmoil and economic decline.

Translated from Bullshit:

Obama ai'nt moved far enough to the right! If he gave the rich more of what they wanted, he would be able to govwern, by giving the rich what they want!

They said:
If President Obama were to withdraw, he would put great pressure on the Republicans to come to the table and negotiate—especially if the president singularly focused in the way we have suggested on the economy, job creation, and debt and deficit reduction

Translated from Bullshit:
Our GOP friends would smell even more Blood in the water, as he would have destroyed his base even more so. And NO NEW TAXES ON THE RICH!

They said:
By taking himself out of the campaign, he would change the dynamic from who is more to blame—George W. Bush or Barack Obama?—to a more constructive dialogue about our nation's future.

Translated:
He would accept blame.

They said:
Not only is Mrs. Clinton better positioned to win in 2012 than Mr. Obama, but she is better positioned to govern if she does. Given her strong public support, she has the ability to step above partisan politics, reach out to Republicans, change the dialogue, and break the gridlock in Washington.

Translated from Bullshit:
More bipartisan kowtowing!

They said:
Were Mrs. Clinton to become the Democratic nominee, her argument would almost certainly have to be about reconciliation and about an overarching deal to rein in the federal deficit. She will understand implicitly the need to draw up a bipartisan plan with elements similar to her husband's in the mid-to-late '90s—entitlement reform, reform of the Defense Department, reining in spending, all the while working to preserve the country's social safety net.

If I need to translate THAT, you are NOT a liberal. Note, no taxes for the rich, and "entitlement reform."

They said:
By going down the re-election road and into partisan mode, the president has effectively guaranteed that the remainder of his term will be marred by the resentment and division that have eroded our national identity, common purpose, and most of all, our economic strength.

Translated:
Gee, not like the GOP has done any of that..and of course, capitulating to them will make less of that, right!

And let's not overlook that such a move will be a big giant F U to the left and OWS.

7. I don't know what the answer is.
But I know it's not Hillary. Would be interesting to think what might have happened if she'd won in 2008. The party has gone off the rails, so it doesn't really matter much to me who gets the nomination. Not anymore.

She has the virtue of never having been co-opted by anyone, not even Obama.

controlled by Republicans. The idea that because her husband was an effective leader, Hillary would be one too, is way to simplistic. And, what makes them think she would win? She fought a good primary fight-but she lost. I can't fathom a majority of Democrats urging President Obama to step down in favor of Hillary. And, wouldn't she have to run in another primary? Or, do these writers think she should just be appointed? Personally, I would vote for President Obama again. I like his style, and, he has kept most of his campaign promises. Those he hasn't I can understand why. I trust that ultimately, he will get the job done and get this country back on track again. We don't need another Clinton to do that.

10. We Really need Advice...
...from a fox news "democrat" like pat caddell.

Given his positions and statements for the last 20+ years, I have NO IDEA why any real Democrat listens to a word he has to say. I suspect they don't except in faux "news" land.

PEACE!

Clinton again rules out presidential run

MANILA — US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday again ruled out a new run for president or becoming vice president, saying she was ready to retire after her term runs out.

Clinton was speaking to a televised forum on a visit to the Philippines, where numerous young people told interviewers that they hoped she would run again to become the first woman to take over in the White House.

"I have had the opportunity to run for president and hopefully break down some barriers to women's political participation, but I'm looking forward to moving on with the next phase of my life," she said.

Clinton also said she was "not at all" interested in becoming vice president, saying she believed that Joe Biden was doing an "excellent" job.

15. BS from the first sentence
...name a candidate who would work hand in hand with congress a effectively govern and run the country. With the composition of congress, it can't be done. The bone-headed ideology and obstructionism of the GOP would remain the same whatever democrat held the presidency, and there isn't a sane one of them that could be trusted to hold the presidency.

The repugs were all in a lather to run against Hillary in 2008; I don't think that's changed a bit.
