Russia Arms Cuba Amid Rising Tension With U.S.

Russia is providing Cuba with production equipment to produce rifle rounds amid rising tensions with the U.S. over the location of its European missile shield, reports RT.

Havana officials reportedly decided to embrace the Russian equipment after visiting a similar plant in Venezuela. A Cuban military factory will also be licensed to recycle ammunition.

News agency RIA Novosti also reports that Cuban factories could be manufacturing Kalashnikov rifles as Soviet-era military facilities, established during the 1970s and 1980s are revamped.

If it all seems a little Cold War-esque, please note the similarities don't stop there — Russia turned on an anti-missile radar system yesterday, seen as a retaliation to the prospect of a U.S. missile shield being located in Europe.
