Germany sets new solar power record, institute says
BERLIN | Sat May 26, 2012 7:02pm BST

(Reuters) - German solar power plants produced a world record 22 gigawatts of electricity per hour - equal to 20 nuclear power stations at full capacity - through the midday hours on Friday and Saturday, the head of a renewable energy think tank said.

The idea is that the opponents of green energy most particularly solar are fond of telling us solar has limited market viability because it can't sustain itself in a free market without leeching off the taxpayer. Concurrently they never mention the nearly $72 billion dollars of energy subsidies as expressed in this graphic, that the fossil fuel industry receives, whereas solar receives only $1 billion of that $73 billion dollar pie. The reason that you don't hear about this in the American corporate owned media is that, they have become a big part of the problem. They are a part of the larger so called American corporate structure that is benefiting from this skewed system, as they are themselves owned by the 1%. Even though this story was covered by Reuters (international wire service), you're reading about it on a Daily Kos diary because the corporate media doesn't want to cover it substantially. There is no state owned media such as the BBC to report issues on behalf of the public as advocated for by the former president of Columbia University, Lee Bollinger, who endorses an American BBC type network broadcasting on behalf of the American people instead of American media outlets purely being owned outright or supported by the subsidies of corporate America.
