Why are Republicans happy about Arnold
Why are Republicans happy about Arnold -- but cry treason when lefty celebs get political?

California dreamin' -- but someday they'll wake up Weren't the Republicans just telling us the other day that celebrities should keep their mouths shut about politics? Didn't they blast the Dixie Chicks, Janeane Garofalo, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon and every other artist who spoke out about the war in Iraq? Wasn't the argument that fame doesn't confer experience, wisdom or competence?

Obviously that was then -- and today is Arnold. Of course, he's no longer a B-movie actor or ex-bodybuilder -- he's a "businessman" now. And like all businessmen he believes that there could be nothing simpler than straightening out the government with a loud voice and a spreadsheet. As Schwarzenegger explained to Jay Leno, he's going to "clean house" in Sacramento, presumably without the use of any automatic weapons or runaway semi trucks.

Today's best capsule story profile reacting to his surprise "Tonight Show" announcement appears in the L.A. Times. Among the astonished viewers were not only the actor's advisors but Richard Riordan, the former Los Angeles mayor and Republican moderate who believed his close friend Schwarzenegger would defer to his ambitions. (Hasta la vista, Dick!) Schwarzenegger's sudden announcement must infuriate Darrell Issa (who weepily dropped out today), Bill Simon Jr., and all the other wing nuts who have spent time and millions promoting the recall. So scared of him that they've rolled over and peed on their bellies like submissive hounds, as Gene Lyons would say, those conservative candidates all now claim to be "welcoming" his entry into the contest. Still, I suspect that the state's conservatives will soon attack Arnold. His liberal attitudes toward abortion and gay rights are intolerable to the Republican right (whose Clinton-hating crackpot wing is also likely to remember his denunciations of impeachment and Kenneth Starr).

1. Maybe because, as a Liberal Republican born offshore,
there is no chance that Ahnold will ever get the White House?

2. Hatch latest to back presidency amendment
http://www.southcoasttoday.com/daily/07-03/07-12-03/a01lo010.htm

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ALLOW FOREIGN-BORN CITIZENS TO BE PRESIDENT

Mr. MCDONALD. All right. I could give what I consider the definitive argument against the proposed amendment in two words: Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I have been allotted 5 minutes, so I will take the 5. I will explain the reference, if it does not follow.

Mr. FRANK. Thank you.

First, I would ask, Professor McDonald, I assume the reference to Arnold Schwarzenegger was to hold out the terrible prospect that he might get elected President.

4. Limpball doesn't like him.
I had occassion to drive around a bit in the middle of the day Friday and today, and it was hilarious listening to him and O'Lielly stumbling around trying to find things to blame on Dems.

Friday was a bad day for them (Repugs). Limpball doesn't seem to like Ahnold (too liberal), and then today he cracked me up talking about Warren Buffet. He actually said (close quote) " Just because he's a good businessman doesn't mean he's good at tax policy..." I swear I've heard that side extoll the virtues of businessmen in government a hundred times in the past few years. Those dittoheads gotta start seeing through the bullshit that guy spews.

And O'Lielly was pretty pissed at Pataki and even Bush regarding the blackout. That was pretty funny too. He could not get around the deregulation issue as a probable cause. He blubbered something about Dems not allowing long term contracts or something. Huh? Jeez, digging deep, Bill?

6. I am finding it interesting that
recycled Republican political strategists are now
working for a very unlikely Republican who not only
was in porn, but sexually abused women and harrassed
co-workers. Real family values there....how do the
strategists reconcile who they are working for to
who they should be working for: Simon,
McClintock and the real Republican Peter Ueberroth?

It's this kind of strategy from Republicans that
sinks them every time.
