Paul Newman following FAUX lead
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/19/opinion/19NEWM.html

Editorial by: Paul Newman

The Fox News Network is suing Al Franken, the political satirist, for using the phrase "fair and balanced" in the title of his new book. In claiming trademark violation, Fox sets a noble example for standing firm against whatever.

Unreliable sources report that the Fox suit has inspired Paul Newman, the actor, to file a similar suit in federal court against the Department of Housing and Urban Development, commonly called HUD. Mr. Newman claims piracy of personality and copycat infringement.

In the 1963 film "HUD," for which Mr. Newman was nominated for an Academy Award, the ad campaign was based on the slogan, "Paul Newman is HUD." Mr. Newman claims that the Department of Housing and Urban Development, called HUD, is a fair and balanced institution and that some of its decency and respectability has unfairly rubbed off on his movie character, diluting the rotten, self-important, free-trade, corrupt conservative image that Mr. Newman worked so hard to project in the film. His suit claims that this "innocence by association" has hurt his feelings plus residuals.

6. Thanks for the link.
I'm very new to these sites. Just the last two weeks really. I've been looking at rackjite for quite a while, but nothing else. I came looking for these sites because of the constant right wing slant in most of the media. I think Ann Coulter's book was the final straw. Before it came out, I noticed that the more I listened to talk radio and watched the news, the more I more I noticed that any thinking that wasn't far right was considered wrong, evil, stupid, and traitorous. Any view that didn't match the administrations, was evidence that you supported Saddam Hussein. My ears really started perking up when I heard Rush say (before Coulter's book came out) that "...remember folks, McCarthy didn't investigate people who weren't communists, he investigated communists." . It was then that I realized that the right wing was going to try to rewrite history so that every repulican was a hero and every democrat was a traitor. Coulter could barely even bring herself to say that JFK was not a traitor. I just think that the right wing has gotten so extreme, that they are out of control.

Sorry about the rant. I actually have a lot more to say, but it feels good to get some of it out.

8. Paul Newman is great
Glad to see he's out there with his own satire. "Bring it on".

Can't wait till the judge in the Faux News/Franken case throws it out big time. Faux News lawsuit is frivolous and Franken should be awarded damages on top of his lawyer's fees. Of course the whole case making news is driving his book sales up.
