In the long history of presidential campaigns, we have seen some bizarre tactics — strategies suggesting it was common sense, not the buck, that stopped at the Oval Office.
As the late President Reagan might have said, "There they go again." This time, it was Vice President Dick Cheney who dipped into the deep well of campaign insanity. At an Albuquerque rally, he demanded that individuals sign a "loyalty oath" to himself and the president before being allowed to enter.

The tactic, however, was more than ridiculous. It was disturbing. It smacked of the dictatorships the administration is so vehemently condemning.
