Conservative Spin Should Worry GOP
Since the election I have read your opinion pages (and those of others), watched Fox News, and caught the odd talk-radio show. There seems to be a bit of work going on to make yourselves feel good and to convince yourselves that November was a smashing win for conservatives. But the cracks in your own spin are showing. Badly.
There are three basic spins being put out about the election.
The first is that the Dems are way out of touch with the common man. The second is that John Kerry was the worst choice to be run by the Dems, and that the Kerry campaign was nothing but massive missteps after mistakes.
The third is the map. Yeah, the red is all over the map, but that shows only the final outcome. It doesn't show the breakdown of votes. Most of "Bush country" had a huge number of votes for Kerry. In some states a 1-percent or 2-percent difference would have produced a different outcome.
So the worst choice to be run by an out-of-touch party of elites had a mismanaged campaign and was trashed by Bush the Mighty . . . 51 percent to 49 percent. The worst man ever to be run by a party barely lost to a man being held up by some as the one of the greatest Commanders-in-Chief ever.
