Readers, please accept my apologies for the lack of originality in the title. In various forms of verbiage, it has been used thousands of times by authors, politicians, and columnists in the past year or more.
However, the question might well be asked, divided by what number? By implication or design, most have used the number two.
In relationship to the war in Iraq, practitioners of that number insist that Americans are divided by those who favour the war and those who are opposed to it.
This portrays a uniquely inaccurate view of America. In an effort to clarify the issue, it is being suggested that America is segmented into four distinct groups and they are somewhat incompatible.
