Bush* campaign ads in '99 and 2000

These were tv spots, with Bush* making a brief comment.

Ad #1:
He's been hailed as the Republican Party's best hope to win the White House.

As governor, he signed the two largest tax cuts in Texas history.

He reduced the growth of state government spending to the lowest in 40 years.

He improved public schools by restoring local control, raising standards and returning to basics.

He cut welfare rolls in half, reduced junk lawsuits and cut juvenile crime 38%.

George W. Bush. A compassionate conservative leader. A fresh start for America.

Ad #2:

I think there's a lot of cynicism in America because of broken promises. I believe most people expect the best out of elected officials and when elected officials disappoint them, it creates a cynical environment.

Secondly, I believe often times campaigns resort to mud throwing and name-calling.

And Americans are sick of that kind of campaigning. What they want to hear is what's on people's minds and where the candidates' hearts are.

I'm going to run a campaign that is hopeful and optimistic and very positive.

Ad #3:

I believe that government should do a few things and do them well.

My top priorities will be to preserve social security and Medicare and to strengthen education and our military.

I believe that once top priorities have been funded we should pass money back to the taxpayers.

That's what I've done in Texas. I signed the two largest tax cuts in our state's history, and we still have no personal income tax.

I believe we ought to cut tax rates to continue economic growth and to broaden prosperity.

Ad #4:

We should make this solemn commitment. That every child will be educated. As President, I will give states and local school districts more authority and flexibility, and encourage them to measure results for every child.

I will challenge failure with charters and choice. And I will change Head Start to teach our youngest children phonics and reading.

Every child must be educated. Because there are no second rate children, and no second rate dreams

They've been busy as bees in all directions and done all of their tasks badly.

Medicare was just trashed, although it will take years to recognize that it has been. They're actively thinking of ways to privatize social security, and if that doesn't work, they'll borrow against it and not pay the debts. In progress now....

"I believe that once top priorities have been funded we should pass money back to the taxpayers."

Guess who defined the priorities? Guess which taxpayers got the bulk of the tax money?

True enough, I suppose. But, look what it did to Texas.

Yeah, and I'm the agent for Jeb on some swampland in Florida. Exactly how has prosperity "broadened" because of the tax cuts? Seems to me that the prosperity has not broadened, but, rather, contracted and concentrated.

I don't see much in the way of truth in this, either.

2. This is really funny!

I am remembering what he did to McCain and Cleland. I am thinking that he is destroying Social Security and dismanteling Head Start. He has made a national joke of public education. I am thinking there isn't one iota of compassion in his conservatism. Geez, I think this sick, twisted bastard believes his own lies.
