AMARA, Iraq (Reuters) - British troops and Iraqi police opened fire on stone-throwing protesters demanding jobs in the southeastern city of Amara on Saturday and at least five people were killed, the British military said.

British army spokesman Captain Hisham Halawi said five bodies were found after the incident. A doctor at an Amara hospital, giving his name only as Assad, said earlier six people were killed and seven were injured.

Police said they opened fire after the protesters began throwing stones at the provincial government's headquarters.

Halawi said British troops brought in to help restore order fired at two protesters they suspected were armed with grenades.

2. Classic Bush - lower the # looking for work =lower unemploment rate
So far we have not killed the unemployed - we just say they have not looked for work in the last x number of days - so they no longer count -

at least not for the mumbers the media wants to use to praise Bush's economy.
