CNN online poll - Was Iraq War Justified
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 01:02 PM by nu_duer
"Was the war in Iraq justified if Saddam Hussein was not pursuing a weapons of mass destruction program?"

http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/late.edition/

currently 79% say no

OF course it should be "if sh did not have weapons of mass destruction" - not the "programs" bs, we didn't invade because of programs, we invaded because, we were told, he had weapons that were a threat. They keep trying, don't they?

2. Basically what they are doing with this poll is insinuating Bush*
May have lied. If he did was the war worth it. That is really the question they are asking. A great majority say no.

3. Amazing question
and a measure of how low this country has sunk....

Remember, the ENTIRE rationale for this war was that Saddam Hussein HAD actual weapons of mass destruction that consitituted an IMMINENT THREAT--such that we might have less than 45 minutes to respond.

And also remember that the ENTIRE post-war plan was that after the cakewalk our soldiers would be pelted by rose petals by overjoyed Iraqis freed from their captor.

and what short memories the so called "liberal press" has changing it from weapons to programs. Wolf got his talking points from the White house.

16. Why not just punch and kick your next door neighbor?
He had as much to do with 9/11 as Saddam did....plus afterwards you can steal his stuff the way Halliburton is doing.

But whatever you do, don't mention Chimpy's business partners, the Bin Ladens and Saudi Arabia.

17. Free Saddam?
While a war against Iraq was not justified, making a martyr out of this tyrant is infinitely more unjustified. Saddam should be tried for a long list of crimes, which include crimes against humanity. And the scope of the trial should include in those officials in the US government that aided and abetted him.

23. Saddam should be tried for his crimes
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 01:32 PM by Jack Rabbit
He should be tried either by an Iraqi court free of US colonial influence or by an international tribunal, not by a kangaroo court established by the Bushies. Under no circumstances should the competency of any institution imposed on the Iraqi people by Mr. Bush be recognized.

18. You may be deluded.
You seem to think that Iraq had something to do with
the attack on the World Trade Center.

News flash: It didn't.

You -- "every single conflict throughout the history of man has been settled by victory on the battlefield"

Like when we stopped the "evil empire" by backing the "freedom fighters" in Afghanistan.

Me -- "the seeds of future wars are planted by the folly of todays wars."

9. Hey, I thought I did that.
Why are they talking now about "programs"? Heck, I can draw some cartoons and call them my program for weapons. But, I didn't, if you're listening, Mr. Ashcroft.

12. How many times have they asked the exact same question
I know of at least 2 other times in the last week, and I don't follow CNN. Are they hoping to get the "right" answer? Or just trying to insert the "programs" meme?

13. This is the 3rd or 4th day in a row they have had this poll.
I would imagine that there would be more votes than that. They must be waiting for it to be freeped before they switch questions. They obviously don't like the results they are getting. The media is so out of touch with reality.

Another point, the disgusting bigots on faux news spent the morning discrediting O'Neill and actually tried to make an argument that his new book won't hurt the pResident at all. Maybe the moon looks good to them because they don't live on the same planet I do. I don't know how this book can't hurt the idiot some people call prez.

21. this has become question of the week
they've rerolled the count every day.

the numbers one day were about 55 against

another day they were in the high seventies, as I recall

anyone have a bookmark on CNN polls from earlier this week?

there must have been a couple hundred thousand votes, total, on this subject.

and it IS truly remarkable that they've so brazenly fallen under the yoke of the white house by so brazenly moving the goalposts back from actual weapons to mere "programs".

where, exactly, in the run up to the war were "programs of mass destruction" ever mentioned, aside from the reconstituted nuclear program, which was as gross a canard as anything they've come up with yet?

25. yet people remain blinded by the media.
I am sure that if CNN gets 50-50 result, THOSE are the numbers that will be televised, not the consistent 80% no votes. I will never know, I gave up cable television over a year ago.

27. Yes, but 81%
still say no. I e-mailed CNN (for all the good it'll do, yeah) and pointed out that before the war, the reasons given from everybody in the Bush cabal were that Iraq possessed actual WMD, and posed an eminent threat to the U.S. At no time did any of them use the phrase "WMD program".

What's amazing to me, is that this is all on record, and all anybody has to do is check back for the articles in newspapers, and transcripts of interviews. The freepers and neocons are so brainwashed, though, that they readily swallow whatever swill Bush spews.

Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 01:46 PM by Jack Rabbit
Online polls are worthless. It reflects a segment of the public that is better informed, only those interested enough to participate and is highly susceptible to manipulation. I wouldn't have even looked at CNN's site unless I had seen this thread; I'm also sure the Freepers are planning their counterattack now.

30. We didn't go to war because he was **PURSUING** A WMD PROGRAM!!!!!!
We went to war on the grounds that he actively had stockpiles of WMD's that posed and IMMANENT SECURITY THREAT TO THE UNITED STATES!

I wish CNN would get it right. It was only AFTER we couldn't found WMD's that the admin started talking about his "pursuing wmds."
