This Dick Cheney quote related by Paul O'Neill is certainly a doozy, isn't it?

We can use it as a wedge to separate old-fashioned fiscal conservatives from the neocons who have taken over the Repiglican party.

Or, will Cheney just deny saying any such thing and it's forgotten?

Reagan could inspire people and Bush doesn't except extreme right wingers. Also, in '84 the economy was adding lots of jobs which gave the appearance of economic rebound. The job market, as the latest employment reports indicate have not rebounded and Bush has to create lots of jobs in the next eleven months to change the fact that he is the first president since Hoover to preside over a net loss of jobs.

6. The Administration's Response

I suspect that Cheney will deny saying that "deficits don't matter." The "liberal media" will probably even drop the story.

However, the Bush administration may never forgive O'Neill even if his claims do no damage to Bush's campaign. The administration will work behind the scenes to get even with O'Neill. Someone in the administration will contact members of the press with some "fun facts" about a member of O'Neill's family. One of those reporters will probably run with the story.

This statement outraged me the most. His "due" was another round of tax cuts for his rich buddies. I hope he gets his due but let's remember that Congress went along with this, it's not just the administration that is evil. Every Senate race and congressional race should make this an issue.

I was totally impressed at how quickly Bernie Shaw and scores of reporters jumped on Cheney over the millions of dollars in government contracts Halliburton received due to Cheney's influence, the very reason a man like him with NO prior business experience was hired. (sarcasm)

10. You're right, that is the most damning part of the quote....

"their due" not what is best for the country.

And I have to take issue with whether they "won" the mid-term elections, considering that the fear that they instilled about Saddam, WMD and mushroom clouds, and un-patriotic Dems controlled the media.

Oh yes, that little incident with the small plane had an impact too.
