War on terrorism doomed, US warned
"A scathing report published by the Army War College criticises the US's handling of the "war on terrorism", accusing it of taking a detour into an unnecessary war in Iraq and pursuing an unrealistic quest against terrorism that may lead to US wars with nations posing no serious threat.

The report, by Professor Jeffrey Record, of the war college at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, warns that as a result of those mistakes, the US Army is "near breaking point".

The report recommends scaling back the scope of the war on terrorism and instead focusing on the narrower threat posed by the al-Qaeda terrorist network."

IMO, al-qaeda is no terror network but the military wing of PNAC, but that's another story...

1. Well, hello there! Welcome to DU! and congratulations

I know it may seem like damning by faint praise to congratulate someone on their ability to perceive the obvious, but it's a rare quality these days, so one is forced to grade on a curve...

:toast:

5. Why didn't this come from U.S. media source?
This article is in Australia, but I would think that the U.S. Army coming out against the PNAC plan for perpetual war would be big news in the U.S. media.

No?

has been outsourced?

dp

edit: and this is an interesting statement from the article-"Professor Record's chief criticism is that the Administration is biting off more than it can chew. He likened the US's ambitions in the war on terrorism to Hitler's overreach in World War II.

:wow:

7. Comparisons with Hitler
From the article:

"He likened the US's ambitions in the war on terrorism to Hitler's overreach in World War II. "A cardinal rule of strategy is to keep your enemies to a manageable number," he said. "The Germans were defeated in two world wars because their strategic ends outran their available means."

Personally, I love Hitler comparisons, but they turn a lot of people off. They must think that Hitler was like some evil entity from another plane of existence. I think he was just another conservative who had a problem with his temper. Remember: "The Banality of Evil". The Nazis were ordinary people.
