Seriously. Watching his public comments today about illegal immigrants and Clinton’s attack & occupation of Iraq, it looks like he is coming unhinged. He is totally on the defensive, stumbling over every other word, obviously trying frantically to remember uncle KKKarl’s talking points, and finishing his ridiculous pronouncements with that hideous condescending smirk. I realize this is pretty much how he has looked all along, but it seems like he knows the jig is up, he’s in way over his head, the neo-cons lied to him when they told him they could pull it off, and he’s just phoning it in now. It was pretty obvious he didn't believe a word of what he was saying. I was beginning to feel kind of sorry for the poor little guy. The feeling passed, but I think he may be near the breaking point. He did not look like a picture of sound mental health, that’s for sure. Is there some provision for dealing with a commander in chief that has lost his marbles? I suppose that would put the big Dick in charge, but what else is new?

We're finally seeing Bush put on the defense for the first time. The media is still coddling him, but he can't even deal with softball defense.

37. I read your critique of the War on Iraq

And noticed one important thing that was missing: any calls by Democrats or Clinton to ACTUALLY INVADE IRAQ! There were frequent references to weapons inspectors (who apparently actually were effective in destroying WMD's) and air and missile strikes against suspected weapons sites. Nowhere did they call for invasion though, only sanctions and inspections. Remember too that Bush is the one who withdrew the inspectors when they were in the middle of destroying illegal missiles, ie doing their jobs. Clinton, through weapons inspectors and sanctions, destroyed virtually every remnant of Iraq's WMD program. Bush, through brute force and invasion, destroyed zero WMD's or WMD programs and succeeding in killing thousands of soldiers and civilians.

What a great day it's been! I heard some clips of Bush today, and I agree. He sounded like he was plastered. He kept stumbling over the words and stammering. Sheesh.

My blood starts pumping a little faster. The corners of my mouth turn slightly upward, and my eyes have a certain glimmer. I love seeing him act like the fool he is.

If I was one of the REAL power brokers behind the scenes, I would be livid right now. I'd be banging my fist on the desk, demanding that this guy get his shit together, right now. You will likely be given a sedative drug to help blunt withdrawal symptoms and prevent DTs. But the real challenge for you will begin after detox, when you enter treatment to prevent further alcohol abuse. Help is available here, too. You may want to contact Alcoholics Anonymous at www.alcoholics-anonymous.org. Antabuse is a medication that reacts with alcohol to cause unpleasant symptoms, such as nausea, headache, and redness of the face; it is given to alcohol-dependent people because it is thought these symptoms will discourage them from drinking. Although it's not clear whether Antabuse really works, some doctors do prescribe it. One can only hope that your analysis is correct, and that these things are really getting to him but I read it a bit differently: the guy is a lightweight. He can't play hurt. If he doesn't get his 8 hours of sleep, and his advisors don't tell him what he wants to hear, he goes into meltdown. He's never been up to the job.

He's a sociopath. So is Cheney. So is Rove. Lots of people who rise to the top of the food chain of life have an element of it, but in these guys, it is all they possess; it is not combined with other characteristics. They are not merely flawed -- they are pathological. Only moral people get upset when confronted with their errors -- not sociopaths.

The praetorian guard around him was breached, and a bit of unpleasantness got through, and our Malignant Narcissist in Chief is in meltdown. An administration which, like the mafia, regards "loyalty" as the essential duty has found out that not only O'Neill, but someone else in the Cabinent sang like a canary to Suskind. That's what they're really upset about -- not the war in Iraq, or terror threats, or the economy.

O'Neill's book is just the tip of the iceberg -- I hope I live long enough to see the inner life of this disfunctional administration brought to light. I bet there are LOTS of stories waiting to be told -- REAL doozies. We've had a few flawed presidents in our history, but I conjecture that what goes on in the Bush administration rivals the inner workings of people like Idi Amin and insane Roman emperors.

President Nixon, in spite of his intelligence, was emotionally flawed. In conbination with abuse of prescription drugs mixed with alcohol, he was at times very seriously over the edge. There was an "understanding" between his chief of staff and the Pentagon that any orders to carry out military operations by Pres. Nixon were to be confirmed by him, no obeyed directly.

Kissinger tells of early morning phone calls from a chemically-psychotic Nixon, ordering him to bomb such and such a place. Kissinger would reply "Right away, Mr President!" and just go back to sleep, knowing that Nixon would not remember.

Nice to know that there were people around Nixon who had developed methods to protect national security from his periodic episodes of psychosis! However, I fear that there are no such people around His Chimperial Highness to protect us from him. They're all so nuts, and his supporters are so nuts, that they may not even be able to tell.
