"IT sector jobs decreased 50% in the past 18 months". This is from an autoresponder e-mail a friend of ours just got from matrixresources.com telling her that IT jobs have decreased 50% in the last 18 months. The e-mail did all but tell her to just forget it because they have several thousand apps for every position.

I can comment that there is a troll from this company (matrixresources) who posts jobs on sysadmin mailing lists but whenever anyone responds with matching qualifications, he either blows them off (snitty, arrogant reply) or simply doesn't respond back at all.

I also remember interviewing at this company once well BEFORE the job market crashed, and they were VERY rude and condescending.

Another friend said he was forced to produce documents of his college degree, his grade transcripts, his certification transcripts, and that Matrix all but outright accused him of lying about his qualifications and education and certs on his resume. I know the guy and he is highly qualified - legitimately so, too.

If you are considering a position via Matrix Resources - don't. Find the job posted with another recruiter and apply for it elsewhere. I've seen them be nothing but rude to me and everyone else I know who has spoken with them or dealt with them.

Seems that's the MO these days, though. I guess if there are a thousand or more of us for each job, we're just persona non-grata to the recruiters and hiring managers. WONDERFUL! Just like the 80s.

Does THIS sound like an economic recovery or decreasing unemployment to you? I DON'T THINK SO!

PhDs mopping floors for min wage or working as greeters at Wal-mart...definitely. What else should we expect? According to HPs CEO we have no rights anyway so...

IT workers have lowered their expectations. They no longer expect to make as much (less than half, in many cases), they expect no benefits, no paid time off, no holidays, nothing. Or, they work at Wal-Mart, or whatever. Or, they don't work at all because there are no jobs and meanwhile, recruiters and hiring managers treat them like sh*t. Just like the 80s. This is a GOOD thing? I don't think so!

What will ALSO save American IT jobs is if we have a decent economy (not possible with a Repuke prez) and if we have a prez who does something about the job and trade inequities between US and other countries and who won't allow the corprats to just keep shipping all the jobs overseas. Gee. That might help. What concepts, eh?

3. Hey! I was being facetious.

I know it sucks, I know that the system that allows it to occur sucks and I know that any plan that doesn't address these issues sucks too.

I graduated college in 1991, it was terrible. The job market was absolute crap for most people.

What the "Free" marketers will tell us now is that there will be something that takes the place of the Tech/90's Boom.

I don't buy it since major employment/technology shifts don't seem to take place every other year, but every other generation.

No, what's happening this time is a "levelling" down for the US. Just like what happened to every other empire.

Lower wages for all, except for the top.

Maybe after a couple of years of "downsizing" expectations the citizens of America might start taking on a more Egalitarian mindset...Instead of the "FU" attitude of today.
