Just got what I think is a politcal message from Petco.com (pro Bush)

Could be... Certainly no reason to include "pResident Bush"

in the statement about spam mail laws.

On the other hand, it could just be an employee with rather poor and unsophisticated writing skills.....:shrug:

EVERY company is sending those to cover their asses. Bush singed the law too so...

they should be politically neutral. Congress had a play in this too.

do you want them to explain how the entire process works in this e-mail? Bush is the president, like it or not, and sadly we have to live with it. If it was Clinton, would the same e-mail be pro-Clinton?

I think it's just about spam. They may be trying to make themselves sound patriotic, but that's probably it. They want Democratic dollars, too.

7. I am a copyeditor and

as one of my grammar books state regarding the use of their with a singular verb: "Purists may become apoplectic upon reading this, but the construction is almost universal in educated speech and increasingly common in writing."
I think his/her is awkward. The best solution is to recast the sentence.
