Big News: My 86 Yr. Old Republican Mom: "Bush is a Terrible President"

Unbelievable.

She voted for Reagan twice, George H. Bush twice, Robert Dole and George W. Bush.

This morning on the phone she finally had seen enough: "Son, George Bush has made a terrible President. He's just terrible."

No small reversal here, folks.

I thought I'd never live to hear anything like that from her.

Maybe, the tide is turning indeed.

I am still reeling from this coming from her...after all these years!

6. I just talked to an 83 year old retired career military guy

at the swimming pool today, and somehow the topic got on Bushco. I was preparing myself for a barrage of Faux News talking points, but to my surprise and delight, this gentleman proceeded to excoriate Bush in no uncertain terms. He even mentioned how afraid he was that if Bush gets (re)elected, he will be able to appoint several supreme court justices. I just had to compliment him on his knowledge and perceptiveness.

My 80-year old die-hard repub mom is turning her coat, too. She hates the war, is confused and worried about Medicare, her pension, and the fundies' influence.

She is very impressed by Clark re: his resume, foreign policy experience, and she thinks we need a military guy to clip the wings of the hawks.

26. Well, 92 year old Mother-in-Law can't stand him and 95 year old Dad....

hasn't liked any President since FDR, but voted for Repugs since then.

Unfortunately he doesn't like either Bush or the Democrats...running....so can't really say what that means, but he's always been a Pat Buchanan Populist with "racial overtones" so it's hard to say where he is on this.

But, My Mom in Law was one of those 30's females who were "independent, educated themselves through college, and wouldn't take guff from anyone.

27. My Mortgage Broker

finally asked me how to go to the Clark website. He is an avid Repuke but has finally had enough and wanted to know if Clark had any plans to deal with the deficit and what he intended to do with the Iraq situation. He has a son in High School who graduates in 2004 and he is worried about the draft. Also he wants an enviromental president and someone who will push alternative fuel sources. I asked how he could have been a Repuke. His answer, I hated Bill Clinton, but * has gone to far.
