I said it in another thread below. I could care less about his convictions - if he is a Dem, then be a Dem. Don't go to Republican fundraisers, shake hands with a Republican President, and go on Republican TV and slam your party. I have NO RESPECT for the Zell Millers of the world. You would never see this in the Republican party. We shouldn't put up with this in the Democratic party either.

Does anyone know what repercussions (if any) Zell is facing for taking a big crap where he sleeps? Or does the fact that he is a lame duck exempt him from any kind of party discipline?

I don't say this much - but I think I hate him.

I live in GA and he has said several times, he's retiring and doesnt care if people get mad at him. When he was Gov. he started a HUGE ruckus when he tried to change the state flag (take off the rebel "X"), and he STILL got elected senator in a landslide. Go figure.........

Zell is an old Marine.He has served his country honorably.As A Georgian I can tell you he did great things for the state as Governor.He instituted a lottery here that has helped many kids get a better education,and he was the first man to get the idea out to replace the GA flag.Zell went to Washington with this statement"I will go to Washington to serve Georgia not the democratic party."

He's not a great politician but the man has kept his word and served GA well.I just have to have respect for a man that is more concerned with his responsibility's to his job than his critics,but don't worry he will be gone soon....Georgia will miss him but I do understand why the Nation will say good riddance.

We've got the Florida lottery for education and it's been a complete scam. I have to take issue with state governments that try and raise money through legal gambling.

If people want to gamble, that's fine, but the state shouldn't be in the business of sponsoring and promoting lottery play, especially since the people who are likely to play the most are folks who are already at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. Lotteries are incredibly regressive.

Did you notice that is usually Democrats pushing for gambling? Ed Rendell is doing that in PA to send every cent to education. What blows is that gambling money doesn't come from wealthy people, it comes from poor people who don't know any better. Gambling is an addiction and a problem for some people.

I like Democrats and Ed Rendell and their hearts are in the right place, but I disagree on this issue.

with no other choices for funding social programs - usually the lottery is the only way to get needed $$$ into the system. Of course, many states have seen their lotteries turn into boondoggles - havens for waste and corruption, with unfulfilled promises as funding panaceas.

I generally don't have problems with legalized gaming, but not when they are run by the State.
