As a Woman, I'm Kinda Bummed About CMB Dropping Out
I was watching the announcement today, and when the mic got passed to Dean and he started praising her, I nearly cried.

In my lifetime, the only other women whose names I can remember running for President were Shirley Chisolm and Elizabeth Dole. I was a kid when Chisolm run, but remember well enough she was considered a footnote. I saw somewhere that Pat Shroeder ran in '87-'88 but for the life of me can't remember her campaign.

Dole at least made it past Iowa and I do admit to not paying much attention to the Republican race.

We got to watch Carol Moseley Braun in I-don't-know-how-many debates. What a symbol of class she's been for the Democratic Party in this rough and tumble time. It was because she's such a voice of reason that I'd hoped she'd be able to stay in the race longer than she did. I didn't support her financially because I'd already picked my horse — but I was hoping at least someone would have picked Carol as their #1 (and I hope saying that doesn't make me some kind of hypocrite).

I hope to see a female President in my lifetime; I didn't expect to see it in 2004, I just wish more people had taken her more seriously, and I think I include myself in that group.

2. I would have to agree
I actually got to sit down and eat lunch with CMB. She was very articulate, and I wished her the best of luck in the Primary. We miss ya already Carol.

3. She endorsed Dean.
They said Dean is going to pick up the deficits in her campaign expenses. Look for Carol to get a position in Dean's administration if he's elected. I don't think we have heard the last of her yet and I certainly hope not. She has way too much to offer.

4. She has knocked my socks off.
She definitely had problems as a Senator, but wow has she grown since then. I really hope she goes on to great things now.

5. don't be surprised
to see her at a cabinet level position when the smoke clears. I like what she had to say she articulated her arguements very well and is respected by a lot of people here at DU.

6. I do not expect to see
a female president in my lifetime unless things change drastically in this country. CMB was wonderful and I will also miss her. I wish things were different but we have a long way to go, lots to overcome in this society before a woman ever becomes president. I am bummed as well, she is a great and gracious lady.

12. She'll be running next possible election
Even if that's as late as 2016, she'd still be younger than Reagan when he won.
Hillary is a secret weapon- when she runs, she will win.
I love Hillary :)

9. I love Carol's dignity, and especially her detailed rebuttals in the
last debate regarding several candidates, all at once. I like her policies, and the way she thinks, and am very glad she is now on board with my guy Dean.

16. I thought she was doing well until
she took off after John Edwards on Sunday with completely wrong information, accusing him of voting with Bush more than any other Senator when the truth is that he has voted AGAINST Bush more than any other Senator. Of course, Edwards straightened her out but quick, leaving her looking rather foolish and underprepared. Her accusation was not only pointless - since Edwards hadn't said or done a thing to her - but it was so off base it was embarrassing. Not a very gracious final appearance.

11. If an Islamic Republic like Pakistan
can have Benazir Bhutto as president, why can't a supposedly modern and open-minded country like the US have a female president?

13. She's a class act
and I loved her pleasant nature and million dollar smile. She really did seem to touch people on an emotional level because I cried today, too.

She was smart, knowledgeable and genuine in every setting be it The Daily Show or Inside Politics and she showed that courtesy during debate could be done ease when you have true diplomacy in your soul.

Maybe that was part of her problem. She was too nice?

20. She is very impressive.
So when did women get the vote?

So when will a women get the office?

Put the women in - most are much better at finding things - all the important things. Saudi Arabian sons of business partners, peace meetings, peace ideas, help for those who need a hand.

Oval desks are equally fine for women - let them wear a tie if a tie is that important. I wonder if she could have become a more viable candidate if she had been a member of skull & bones - oh that's right - there are no women in skull & bones.

Anyway, she has great presence - oh to be as quick on my feet as she. Very impressive. Very.

24. Yes, Pat Schroeder!
I've been thinking of her so much lately. It was so wonderful to be able to go into a voting booth and have that one lever I could pull with such enthusiasm, as opposed to the tweedledums and tweedledees.

I was there at her famous withdrawal speech, and cried along with her. Still feel the tears just thinking about it.

I have been wondering the last couple of weeks if any DEm who got into the White House this time would do the smart thing, and put Pat in a position. I long to see her at work again!

Kanary, with fond memories...

25. Locking
While Carol Moseley-Braun is no longer a candidate, and this post attempts to focus on the person herself and the lamentable absence of a female in the race, Dean's name is mentioned, and the discussion has introduced perspectives solely permitted in the GD Primaries Forum.
