Will We See Massive Global Marches Against Bush Before U.S. Election?

Before November of this year, could it just be possible that Americans for the first time in history will witness massive televised protests and organized marches around the world demonstrating universal disdain for President George Bush and letting the American people "see" how very unpopular our leader is?

Would it have an impact on the U.S. election if millions upon millions of demonstrators from London and Berlin to Sidney and Tokyo took to the streets in solidarity beseeching the American people to do the right thing send George Bush packing?

I don't think that this is just some fanciful wish by this lone poster here at the DU.

And why shouldn't the people of the world be concerned about who the U.S. elects as President?

Instead of awakening the American people to how much the world hates Bush*, it could also galvanize support around "our" pResident. Most Americans don't pay attention to what is going on in the world, and most freeper types don't like the rest of the world, anyway.

on the other hand, massive demonstrations in the U.S. ... peaceful, well organized marches of people from every walk of life...that might have the desired effect....

There are already some efforts to organize a protest in NYC in September. Get ready for a major-league gag-fest while Shrub wraps himself up in 9/11, terrorism, etc. I wonder what the 9/11 families think about the shameless way the RNC is using the 9/11 tragedy for political purposes?

I'd love to see thousands taking to the streets to protest the RNC convention, and will be right in the middle if it happens.

17. I'm not so sure it would...

The millions who marched worldwide last February took plenty of heat from the RW, but frankly I believe the RW was more frightened than anything else. My impression was that non-fanatical types were more impressed than anything else.

Could be my own wishful perception talking, but that's my honest opinion. And there was media coverage in the U.S. -- and with a few exceptions, it wasn't all that damning.

The thing is, is the momentum still there? Or can the RW breathe a sigh of relief and think back on the February demos as a one-time deal?

This does need to be done much more consistently... and I agree, it needs to be done in the U.S., coordinated with our overseas allies.

So is there ever going to be another March on Washington?

The big marches in February were incredibly energizing to the people...even though we had no effect on our effective-less Congress...who cares? It was affirming to the rest of us.

Don't you all regret (I do) that we didn't take to the streets after the Bushistas brought in their heavy-weight activitists (paid professionals) and then James Baker and then...the Supreme Court...5 to 4... and STILL we failed to take to the streets!


Never again, I say! Even in Georgia, the former state of USSR, they took back their democracy recently.

We can do the same! But let's do it BEFORE the election, make sure the election is fair, and if it goes awry again, go back to the streets.

I will never forgive myself for sitting in my living room in tears after GWB was awarded the Oval Office. Damn my eyes for being a coward, and never again will I be!

along with water canons and rubber bullets, a media glad to discredit, the forces that quell protest are experienced and professional. The type of protesting where large numbers carry signs and march to song are almost nostalgic. We need a new way to show displeasure that hasn't been studied by the opposition.

Cross the imaginary line that is imposed against free speech and not step back nor step down. It's got to start with one step, and maybe that started in Atlanta today.

I could give a damn whether the media covers it or not. If nobody is home watching b/c they are on the street, what is the media's point anyway? To give some freeper a hard on? There's more of us than there are of them, look at the past show of heads and hardhats at demonstations.

hell, it IS global. The fraud in office is hated worldwide, and just because he's fooled maybe half the population of this country doesn't give him a pass on the whole Earth. It's not some fanciful wish by some lone poster. I think it's reaching a tipping point.

depends on, who is the candidate for the democrats or offered as an alternative at all.
The people of the world are concerned about who the U.S. elects as a president, besides those who stay at home watching T.V., like most of the US citizens.
The people,who march down the streets to state their opinion?
Maybe they couldn't care less.
I just speak for myself as a german: If Dennis would stand against Bush, I would eat an american flag. I would march every street outside and inside the USA for weeks.
If it's Clark: I'm more afraid of him than of Bush.

If it's Dean, I wouldn't know, if it's just another Clinton.

But I guess, at least speaking for the people, who would march, as long as their isn't someone, who is really different from Bush, who's opposing corporate crime, who doesn't take their money.

...I was told a while back from a fellow DUer (no names no pack drill), that I didn't have to live under Bush* as apposed to this person who is in the United States. But you know what? I do have to live under him. It might not be in the same country, but I happen to be a member of this world as well, and it is this world that he is destroying. If this guy thinks of himself as a world leader, then shouldn't the world be the ones to elect him?

I agree totally with you, my friend. The people of the world have every damn right to be concerned about who gets elected POTUS.

I do hope we see massive world wide protests as well. And if there is going to be some in Melbourne, you can bet your bottom dollar this Aussie will be there representing DU, and all my leftie brothers and sisters. :)

most people here in the US would never see it or read about it..

Look at how little mainstream coverage the protests got in Feb.. A few seconds here and there, and usually focused on someone wearing an outrageous get-up or carrying a profanity-laced sign..

Our media knows how to frame what they want us to see..

They don't mind us watching their t&a shows, or wathing video-murders every 30 minutes, but they would never stand for us to see how the rest of the world hates our puppet..

Our media wants us to watch their sales pitches, and fill our brains with soundbytes..

50 million people could march all over the world, and it would be reported to the mainstreamers as.."A few disgruntled furriner troublemakers disrupted commerce and tied up traffic in downtown..(.........)" and another thing.. "They look like they were either french or german"...."
