Bush just Installed Pickering - Unity Thread for Righteous Indignation
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 03:41 PM by dave29
Just reported on MSNBC

unbelievable.

Edit for link and story

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/01/16/national1515EST0683.DTL

President Bush bypassed Congress and installed Charles Pickering on the federal appeals court Friday, opening an election-year fight with Democrats who had stalled the nomination for more than two years.

Bush installed Pickering by a recess appointment, which avoids the confirmation process. Such appointments are valid until the next Congress takes office, in this case in January 2005.

Pickering, a federal trial judge who Bush nominated for a seat on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, has been waiting for a confirmation vote in the Senate.

"I'm grateful to the president for his continued confidence and support," Pickering told The Associated Press from his home in Mississippi. "I look forward to serving on the 5th Circuit."

2. And take a look at this story at Yahoo about the Texas re-dist fight
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=558&e=3&u=/ap/20040116/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_texas_redistricting]

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court refused Friday to block a hard-fought Republican redistricting plan in Texas that could cost Democrats as many as six seats in Congress

We all have to come together whoever the Dem candidate is to get these evil people out of the WH and change the Supreme Court. This is an awful day for this country!

Okay, I got mad (actually madder). Now let's talk about getting even.
This morning I made another contribution to my candidate. This horrible news inspired me to write out a check to the DNC. Who's with me?
LET'S GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!

12. It's an absolute disgrace
Here we have an unelected, dictatorial "president" putting a segregationist southern Republican on the bench. It's enough to make you sick.

14. Thanks to the Senators for fighting the good fight
Another huge reason to kick Bush out of the White House. He has never believed in Democracy, and is willing to subvert our Democratic process for his own whims. Bush will set us back 200 years by the time he is finished in office. I can't believe how fucking angry I am right now!

but were you angry when Clinton recess-apppointed Bill Lan Lee?...it's the same process... and just as legitimate...this is not worth having a stroke over...

17. There's a difference
First, Lee wasn't a judge. And second, Clinton had actually been elected to the presidency. Bush was not. President Clinton recess-appointed people like Judge Gregory, a highly-qualified African-American who had been blocked by segregationists like Thurmond and Helms. They wouldn't even let him out of committee!

19. no...same thing
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 05:27 PM by stopthegop
Pickering is a judge, as is Gregory...Pickering never got out of committee, neither did Gregory...Bush being elected or not is not really relevant..he's in the Oval Office either way...

this is a case of what's good for the goose being good for the gander...we should live with it, work on things we can effect...

on edit: changed subject line
