DU is a depressing place for progressives (somtimes)

So many psyop freepers and woe-is-me's here, it's downright depressing at times. Maybe it's just slow and I get bored.

A look at Yahoo message got my spirits way up. I see which way the landslide is going. Bush is toast. I'd say the pubbies are outnumbered 10:1 at this point.

It's nice to find some more encouraging chatter when DU is slow.

These guys are on some serious bucking meds!! How else do you have your head in the clouds with more death coming every day and no end in sight. This whole war was probably a brilliant product of hydrocodone. Didn't they say it makes you think you're a genius, like Rush thinks he is with his 'Talent on loan from God?'?

At least here in Southern California, Bush has to be running better than 60% approval from anyone I would consider likely to vote (admitedly microscopic sample rate, but it's my reality). There is hardly even awareness of the dem candidates. Never seen such a swing in my life as SoCal electing a republican governor (and it was SoCal that recalled Davis and elected the governator, make no mistake about it) and basically becoming moderate republicans.

I went to college there. Little island of liberalism in an ocean of neanderthals. We used to call this big mall (Fashion Island) Fascist Island. It's not a complete loss, though. Anybody remember "B-1 Bob" Dornan? The berzerko loudmouth congressman who never saw a killing device he didn't love? Well, he was finally hosed out by Loretta Sanchez - not just a Dem but a female Dem. And she's still there, plus her sister has come on board, too. If Orange County can do that, it's not a complete loss down there.

And just wait for awhile until more people start to understand that dear darling Arnold can't pull off the miracle cures he did in the movies. I'm not losing faith yet.

I'm in Long Beach/Pasadena/downtown L.A. in my work, and when the subject of politics comes up, Bush is deeply disliked by at least 70% of the people I chat with. The people who admit to voting for him say they'd never vote for him again, more often than not.

My observations are no more scientific than yours, of course- but I get a very different read.

As for the Governor's race... California elected a STAR, not a Republican. Schwarzeneggar's celebrity is what won that race.

I live in Santa Monica and work in the film business. EVERYBODY I know hates Bush, despises him, can't STAND him, and they don't even know what PNAC is!!

I'm actually shocked that nobody I talk to knows what PNAC is. Even when they seem otherwise informed.

are a world unto themselves, and a small part of SoCal. I work in Burbank and Long Beach, and get around the rest of SoCal pretty frequently.

I grew up in santa monica, and that rent control board was great theatre :) Perhaps it was all a bit left of orange county.

15. I live in Irvine, California Orange County

General consensus in the neighborhood, Mr. Bush Jr. is an idiot. In Orange County before the war there were several protest going on in any given weekend. The Orange County Register newspaper, a right wing rag was adamantly against the war. Arnold Schwarzenegger had a free ride by the T.V. news by declaring him the best without stating an agenda. This county is not going to be an easy win for Mr. Bush Jr.

When Gray Davis signed the driver license act for illegal aliens that pissed off the Hispanic community. The Hispanic networks (I think there are 2 or 3 networks with 6 to 8 Spanish speaking stations in the area) were pounding their news cast with the idea that Mr. Davis was not playing fair with immigration issue withholding driver license from Hispanics in California. Another words Mr. Davis needed to sign the bill or else. This was not true with the Hispanic community and when Mr. Davis did sign the bill they felt he was just playing them for their vote. Mr. Bush Jr. and his immigrant workers bill will probably work against him too, so Mr. Bush Jr. do not count on the Hispanic vote here in California, especially here in Orange County.

Most of the people I talk to here are very down on Bush. Maybe it's because of the type of people I associate with, but I find it encouraging. Sadly, our awesome liberal columnist in the Tuscaloosa News announced in her Friday column that she's moving on. I hope they find a worthy replacement for Katherine Lee.

Last night they had DC here for a fund raiser, and he only raised $400,000. The event cost the city of Portland $100,000.

Anyway, we're all excited for a new administration to try and bring the people back together again.
