Is it wrong to feel this way?
I feel that anybody not born in Canada who voted "yes" in the Quebec referendum should be deported to their country of origin. If the only contribution you are making to Canada is its destruction, you're not welcome here.

That goes to everyone British candidates in the Parti Québécois (One of the most prominent separatist members of Quebec's National Assembly was a British theologian named David Payne...I'd like to show him the meaning of the work. ;)) to Moroccans standing side by side with Gilles Duceppe or with Mario Dumont.

You are free to hold whichever political views you want in my country, as long as you are not coming here to help destroy it.

1. I agree
When I first read your post I thought it was kind of radical - but you know, it makes sense. They can't understand what it is to be Canadian

2. So, logically speaking, you should also deport those who voted "no"
Because whatever side they voted on, they are illegitimate to vote, since they aren't real Canadians.

Wow.

Either you allow them to vote, or you don't. They are either citizens with full rights and responsibilities, or they're second-class immigrant scum. There is no middle ground of saying "You can vote if you vote 'No.'"

I thought only the US had this kind of bigoted bullshit anti-immigrant speechifyin'.

4. I was a little loaded last night
I wrote a reply to your post last night but when I tried to send it, the web site crashed or something. I was originally trying to be funny and provocative, unfortunately when it was in writing in black and white, it was neither.

I don't really believe that anyone should be deported, and I also think we should accept anyone who makes it to our shores, legally or illegally. In reality, it was probably the immigrant community who voted "no" that saved the coutry.

But maybe we could deport to France all those Parti Qebecois who really do want to separate? I mean they intend, whenever they are the provincial government, to hold referendum after referendum until they get the answer they want. And, in order to separate, a 50% plus 1 vote would be sufficient for them.

But here's a question: what DO you do with people who come to your country, presumably to have a better life, then vote to destroy it?

5. Locking
Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum.

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

3. The subject line of a discussion thread may not include profanity or swear words, even if words or letters are replaced by asterisks, dashes, or abbreviations.

4. The subject line and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation.

5. If you post an article or other published content which is from a conservative source or which expresses a traditionally conservative viewpoint, you must state your opinion about the piece and/or the issues it raises.

6. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

7. Discussion topics that mention any or all of the Democratic presidential primary candidates are not permitted in the General Discussion forum, and instead must be posted in the General Discussion: 2004 Primary forum.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
DU moderator
