Somehow I missed this article from yesterday:
Lyles memorial toppledFORT PIERCE -- Vandals could be behind the recent toppling of a statue of CeeCee Lyles, a public works official said Friday.
The statue came off its perch in the Liberty Garden on Jan. 2 and was picked up by police the next day. It was dedicated on Nov. 26 in memory of Lyles, a
former Fort Pierce police officer and flight attendant on United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
(snip)
Lorne Lyles, CeeCee Lyles' husband, said
he would prefer not to think that someone would intentionally knock the statue down. Lyles said he was in town during the weekend the statue fell.
"It was light. It could have blown down," he said.

...Went through the article, and what was
not mentioned is what is readily apparent to any who knew of CeeCee, or have seen her picture:
Apparently some are still not ready for the possibility of black heroes....
