Chuck D (Public Enemy) Is A Man Of The People! He's Down With ABB!
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 09:40 PM by DUreader
I just got to talk with him for a good bit of time. He just finished speaking at a MLK celebration/memorial.

His speach was chock full of the political. Talked about the lies of

tv and radio, stressed reading and sharing knowledge.

He Dissed Bush* Plenty and Questioned the War and "Weapons of Mass Dissapearance"

Said the legacy of Dr. King has been glossed over and 'pacified' and

reduced to 'the dream' only, ignoring that King was a revolutionary.

OK most of us know all this because we already read and share knowledge.

He had no body guards or entourage and just came down off the stage, after speaking for about an hour, and signed peoples albums, cds etc.

He talked to everyone who wanted to talk to him.

In my short chat with him I thanked him for keeping it political

and we laughed about how people often look at you like you are crazy

when you talk about this kind of stuff.

We commiserated over the lack of political music on the radio and

talked about taking some time away from the US after we cast our votes

next fall. He's into Eastern Europe due to the vitality of the people he's met there.

That is my brief MLK memorial report and I feel a little more inspired tonight than this morning

1. Lucky you.
I would love to meet him. In about a month I have a chance to meet one of Ghandi's grandsons. He is giving a speach in Michigan and afterwards certain ticket holders get to meet him.

4. Well, you can see that my writing is not really up to par
Also I took no notes so I couldn't claim to accurately quote him.

Thanks for the offer.

You should Email him directly, I bet he would give you an interview.

11. I saw his new band at the moveon party
He's got the guitar player from Living Color, and the did old PE songs live with a jazz-ish sort of feel, very interesting, sort of a cross between PE and Bootsy Collins - but the reverse of the way PE was.

12. Very eloquent, good businessman, and his voice brings weight
He seems like a guy anyone could sit down with and talk over a cup of the beverage of your choice.

14. If King were alive today he would be marginalized as a fringe
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 11:47 AM by jonnyblitz
leftist, perhaps by many here at DU even. You know he would be criticizing many of the DEMs in congress and that doesn't sit well with the party loyalists. :shrugs:

15. I love his politics, but,
he should exhort his listeners to do a couple of daring, dangerous, radical, revolutionary things: register to vote, and then VOTE. There is nothing more dangerous to The Man and his lily-white way of life. Vote...and vote every time!

Does Chuck D do this?

If not, then he should.
