In Illinois, if is accepted that labor support can determine a Dem candidate in a primary. Our Dem. Governor is a classic example.
Recently, our state AFL-CIO had the endorsement session for the Illinois primaries, and they opted to endorse a Senate candidate that had done a huge amount of organizing in labor in the last couple years. My guess is, he will win the Primary and replace Pete Fitzgerald as a US Senator.
I think it is a huge mistake to underestimate how much labor can mean to any candidate if the candidate is viewed as being pro labor. I do know that labor is mighty pissed at bush, and they want him out of office simply because he has been waging war on workers in this country, and on organized labor in particular. I expect this election to show huge labor numbers.
Watch Iowa. It is all about organization, and labor is Gep's baby in Iowa. IF they are as organized as I expect them to be, he's gonna shock a lot of people tonight. If not, then he's DOA nationally.
Just my 2 cents.
Pax.
