Democrats do not need to applaud Bush's SOTU speech...
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 06:21 PM by kentuck
Their applause should be very limited. They should sit and not applaud anything he says about the war. They should applaud lightly if he says anything about "immigration'. They should sit when he starts talking about going to Mars. They should applaud if he says anything about "healthcare". They should sit stone silent when he starts talking about deficits and spending.

This could send an important message to Americans. The Democrats should be ready to use this SOTU speech against Mr Bush just as much as he would like to use it against them. I hope they are ready for it. Let the Republicans stand up and cheer all they want. The Democrats should feel no need to follow their suit. Just one time, I would love to see our Party do this. They should be ready to defend each of their applauses as they should be ready to defend why they sit silent..

2. must we polticize the Space program
I always applaud when it comes to anything in space. I just wish one of our eight had spoken-up. Left in wide open for Bush. And now we're supposed to hate it? I don't hate it! It will be the ONLY part of the speech I clap for.

3. But he's destroying the Hubble and he Space station to pay for it ??
A bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush... I also support space exploration but not George Bush's plan for space exploration. That is the differnce and Democrats should not applaud him for it.

Please EVERYONE who loves the space program thinks all who suspect bush* are anti-space program...NO...Halliburton will do to the space program what it did to oil delivery in Iraq...just use it as an excuse to steal money from the taxpayers...

10. Colossal waste of money

"Politicize" the space program. Manned space flight is NOTHING BUT politics on rockets.

Yeah, it is "cool". But it's VERY expensive cool that provides little or no long term value to our nation. I'd rather build a network of MagLev trains then go to the Moon or Mars.

BTW, Bravo for our "RoboNauts". They go into space at a fraction of the price of astronauts and do good science. When they die, the other robot programs aren't shut down.

Just for your info. Bush's proposal is the basic Bush deception. He is proposing an extra 1 billion a year for NASA. The rest of the money would come out of the "productive" portion of NASA. They are planning to shut down the space station (which provides a decent platform for permanent space science). They also want to shut Hubble down early.

Beyond this, the other "robot" programs will most likely suffer as NASA goes "moon or bust" on a shoestring budget. Of course, I think the fundamentalist Republicans like it that way. Science de-mystifies the universe and makes their book of "absolute truth" look silly. The more data we collect the better cosmological origin theories become.

4. Amen.
But wouldn't it be fun to see a democratic Congress that acts like the British and actually boos the other side? Not that I am advocating that, but it seems like they put their hostility right out front and don't try to cover it up. That just seems so much more healthy.

7. Agreed...
Australian Parliament is always like that. I think it's excellent. Politeness shouldn't be getting in the way of valid protest. Applauding everything for the sake of applause itself seems like such a sanitised way to conduct politics.

9. It'd be fun to see the Dems act like the Pukes did when Clinton
gave his SOTU in the midst of impeachment. That bastard DeLay and his ass-boy henchmen alll sat on their hands the entire time.

12. I hope they don't applaud his war...
I suppose they could applaud lightly when he mentions the capture of the evil dictator, Saddam?? But other than that, they should not applaud any other thing about his little illegal adventure. They need to draw a line in the sand with this MF'er...

The SEC needs to increase its oversight on his numerous business excesses, especially Kramerica corp.

14. they shouldn't even show up
last year's SOTU was so full of lies, why should they belive anything he says?

whoever said they should go to the vigil for fallen soldiers was right. we should all call our reps and sens and suggest it.
