Meldrum refused entry to US

AUSTRALIAN music guru Ian "Molly" Meldrum has been denied entry into the United States and ordered onto the next flight home.
He was the latest in a string of journalists to be refused entry for having the wrong visa or none at all since a major crackdown on border security by US authorities.
Meldrum learnt when he arrived in Los Angeles Airport yesterday that he did not have the special I-visa required by journalists.
He was denied entry, locked up and ordered to return home with his flight expected to land tomorrow morning.
Australia's consul-general in Los Angeles made several attempts to have the decision overturned but was unsuccessful.
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, who is in Los Angeles, said Meldrum's treatment had been too tough.
