Bill Schneider CNN Post SOTU poll results:Unimpressive. |
|
45% positive reaction lowest in last 6 years,
Are policies going in the right direction?
- Healthcare %43 before %68 after - Social Security %47 before %59 after - Right direction overall %60 before %70 after (clinton has 30 pt gains) - Iraq: confident of acheiving goals? only %29 said yes.
Why? Speech didn't go beyond base.

He'll need more than them to actually win an election.
You'd think he'd try to speak to issues that everyone else has some interest in, even to say "I've done more for Human Rights than any other President".

..being a member of a neo-conservative think tank (AEI)! Can you imagine CNN hiring a member of MoveOn to criticize, judge, and comment on Republicans, while failing to ever mention their MoveOn affiliations? It would NEVER happen. Liberal media!

Maybe people are waking up finally. Now if the Dems keep at him maybe his numbers will actually go down. I really was bad. At least when Reagan spoke he had a better delivery since he had the acting skills.

7. I said exactly that earlier this evening |
|
They showed a clip of Reagan in the pre coverage. At least Reagan had some ability to communicate.

12. CNN: Bush never said "I understand" |
|
An interesting observation was just made by Stanley Greenberg on CNN's "Newsnight" regarding why the SOTU got the worst response of any in the last 6 years.
Not an exact quote but as close as I could get:
"People understand that the economy is doing better. They're not looking at that. They're worried about their own incomes, their own jobs, and there was no moment where he acknowledged that and said "I understand"..."

only because my daughter wanted to watch it and I didn't want her to have to watch it alone. My prediction is there will be no bounce for Bush and there may in fact be further erosion in the polls. He sounded defensive and was totally unconvincing - particularly on the WMDs in Iraq. Resorted again to misrepresenting the views of war opponents by saying that "some didn't want to liberate Iraq" - ignoring the fact that he gave no such justification for the war. That I think is finally going to piss off even some of the war supporters who were convinced by the WMD claims. Oh what a tangled web we weave....
